San Patrick is a sister company of Pronovias, making similar and virtually identical styles to Pronovias in cheaper fabrics.

The Pronovias Daifa is made of silk and the San Patrick Baltico is made of a cheaper fabric (maybe a heavy satin??).

Baltico may seem like it's more fitted in the pic because of the flowy nature of the fabric, it drapes the body better than silk which has a little more structure.

Have you seen the other picture of Daifa with the model standing against the tree? http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/pronovias/detail/164185

I thought it was odd she was trying to plan everything too, atleast I would think before telling people (she had already told our MIL, SIL, and had invitations ready for crafting) about these events she would ask me about my schedule? Especially when she's been around enough to know I'm incredibly busy with school and graduating the same week as the wedding? I'm trying to think she means well and is just very naive (with a law degree?).

I'm atleast 12 years younger than his siblings somaybe they she's jsut forgotten what it's like. I think she meant well.. Im just a freaking push over and I let this stuff get to me sometimes. I hate declining generosity.

This actually sounds like the kind of thing my mom would say! She doesn't drink much herself, and tends to get a little judgemental of those who do.

However, I believe that people will drink less at an afternoon reception than they would in the evening. After all, you have to go home and cook dinner, right? But a couple of drinks isn't out of line. For an afternoon reception, I think that limiting the bar to beer and wine is just fine, but I would go ahead and try to keep the bar open throughout the reception.

And really, for the kind of people who are seriously going to over indulge - they will find a way no matter what. I have friends who will go out to the bar to get their own drinks, and DH has friends who will bring a flask if they think there won't be alcohol (his dad probably would have as well). I don't think its good policy to limit alcohol for everyone because you suspect that a few people might go overboard. And maybe once your FMIL gets her drink on, she will be a little more pleasant... I know that my mom is!

I believe I can get them in NYC's Chinatown for $3 each, so I'm looking for an even cheaper Internet deal. I've heard and read online that people purchase them abroad for .50 - $1. Does anyone know where to find these? Thanks!

Well, it's apparently time to get down to the name change paperwork, although after searching the boards I am comforted by the length of time that it has taken several bees and readers to change their names!

I had though that I would just add DH's name to my own - giving me a total of four names (FirstName MiddleName MaidenName LastName). It's actually traditional in my family, and my dad's family is Catholic and hispanic so a whole string of names not uncommon. It also gives me the option to use both my maiden name and new last name at work, which helps quite a bit with the issue of professional "brand recognition." (I don't really want to hyphenate. I also don't want to lose my middle name, as it was my grandmother's name.)

However, it really looks like a lot when I write it down! I realize that I will normally not write all four names - socially I will probably go by FirstName MiddleName LastName, and professionally by FirstName MaidenName LastName. And I suppose that anything would feel odd for a while. But I feel the need to ask: How many of you have (or intend to) be women with four names? If you're changing your name but ending up with only three names, did you drop your maiden name, or your middle name?

Um, wow, I love the Crate and Barrel dishes. I would totally return the others and buy those. Seriously. After all, the people who bought things off your registry didn't spend a ton of time and effort picking out something they thought you would like - they just bought what you asked for.

We had a little dish dilemma too - picked a pattern we thought we liked (from photos on the internet) but had never seen in person, as it wasn't in stock in any of the stores. After receiving the first couple of place settings, I wasn't really sure I was in love with it. (The texture wasn't exactly what I had expected - weird, I know, but true.) We decided to wait and see if the dishes sort of grew on us - and I ran a set through the dishwasher, and it turned out that the funny "feel" of them went right away once they were washed. Now we're really happy with them. But I was absolutely ready to return them all and find another set - and just explain to people that, Oh silly me, I picked them out without ever seeing them and once we did actually have them, they just weren't quite right.

It is hard to tell from a photo, and everybody has had the internet shopping experience where it's just not what you want when it shows up, so go ahead and blame it on that. Nobody should be offended.

I think that people think they are doing you a favor - and so that somehow whatever is most convenient for them will also be fine with you. (I also think that some people are more prone to that attitude than others!) Plus, some people really want to do something FOR you, whereas some people are really looking for some personal glory - "Look how great I am, throwing this wonderful party for you!"

It totally gets worse. The day before my wedding I had all kinds of friends and family - most of whom walked in the door asking what they could do to help - somehow acting like I should be waiting on them! I didn't have any specific tasks to give them (more fool me) so they were sort of wandering around requesting random things from me (a Coke - no, a Diet Coke - no, one without ice - a map of California - coffee - cream for the coffee - and on and on). I finally fled to a girlfriend's house with my little box of stuff that still needed to be done - and sent DH (along with said girlfriend's husband) out deliver stuff to our venue and pick up my dress - leaving everybody wondering where the heck their "host and hostess" had gone. Hey, when I said that there wasn't really anything you could do, I didn't mean that there wasn't anything I had to do!!

Unfortunately I'm like you - I end up feeling bad if I'm not somehow sufficiently grateful or gracious. You (and I!) need to get used to saying, politely, "Wow, how nice of you! I really appreciate that! Unfortunately, that (date, time, week, situation in general) isn't going to work out for me. What about (the next week, the weekend, getting the heck out of my house for the rest of the day?) There's nothing wrong with that, really. Just say it nicely! And say "Thank you!" a lot. Try to channel Kyra Sedgewick on The Closer.

I'm better now. It was just that momentary freak out that I can't make everyone happy. There are other factors that played into my emotion- but that was the current dillema. I don't fit in with my fiance's family... and situations like this (once I am calmed down) remind me why usually I don't care. Everything is on their terms- and while I appreciate the offers; I feel like I am expected to oblige.

Thanks everyone

Cool, that's exactly what I needed to hear.

Thanks, ladies. Maybe I'll put a few on the tables during the reception. It's a buffet and they will be waiting as tables are called up.

Thanks!!

We had dancing at our wedding, and I worried a bit about whether the dance floor was big enough - but most of the guests either didn't dance or didn't dance much. Many of our guests don't get a lot of opportunity to see one another, and they were much more interested in socializing. The people who did dance were mostly local friends of ours who do see each other (and us) all the time, but I really think that they would have been fine just drinking and socializing as well. We did have an evening reception.

Also, I don't think I have ever been to an afternoon wedding reception that had dancing. It's much more of an evening thing. It's also not that rare to have an afternoon reception without alcohol - or if alcohol is served, I think that people drink quite a bit less in the afternoon than they would in the evening.

So yes, I think it's just fine if you don't have dancing! Everybody will have a great time. Anybody who is bored to tears because they can't dance didn't want to be there all that badly in the first place.

I think something like that would be more appropriate for brunch the morning after. I'd be too distracted with something like that in front of me during the ceremony.

Okay so I feel a little ridiculous even posting this but...

When we first started our registry I knew exactly they type of dishes I was looking for. Mostly white with cobalt blue accents, somewhere in between dressy and casual for use with almost everything, and with a little twist of uniqueness without being too wacky. Well, I didn't find it anywhere. And I really thought I looked everywhere. So, I settled.

A few months ago I picked two sets, these pretty white and red casual plates (almost everything I wanted except for the blue, and not quite unique enough), and these white, silver, and blue fine china settings (again, very close, perfect color, but a little too dressy). And I had a bridal shower, and got all of the reds I'd requested, and half of the blues, from someone near and dear to my heart.

Fast forward to today, just casually browsing the internet, and I just about die when I found these dishes at Crate and Barrel. White. blue. Funky/pretty floral accent. Neat subtle shapes. Not too fancy. Gorgeous. Me? Drooling. Exactly what I was looking for. A few months too late.

Obviously, three sets of dishes is excessive. But I don't think I can return the others, because the giver wasn't just some random great-aunt I'll never see again--it was someone who will be over for dinner often and will know exactly what dishes I am using (and wonder why they aren't the ones she gave me, although she would be too polite to ask). But I have never been more in love with a set of dishes in my life!

Why oh why couldn;t I have found these earlier? Is there anything to be done? Or should I just resign myself to the fact that after all, they are just dishes?

[Okay, so this is mostly a rhetorical post, I KNOW I have to get over it. They ARE just dishes. Just venting, is all!]

I feel like such a boozehound, but the no alcohol seems like a bigger deal than the no dancing. Depending on your guests it may not matter much, or you may have religious beliefs that make it a no-no. But if either of these is not the case, at least a cash bar may be in order. Since it is a small wedding, there may be a few guests who are unfamiliar with most of the people there. A little lubrication may make them a little less uncomfortable. Plus wine or champagne is always appropriate with a nice meal, whether it's lunch or brunch.

We're planning a no-dance brunch too! I think it's perfect and probably appropriate for the time of day and size-- especially the size. My FBIL and FSIL had dancing at their relatively small wedding, and though it was in the evening, the dance floor was pretty empty and most of the older adults left! The music was fantastic, but it was SOOO boring sitting around.

Can I also assume that because you're having a small wedding, your closest friends and relatives will be attending? My mom made an excellent point to me last night-- all our friends and relatives will be more interested in catching up and eating than dancing!
