this may not be "mainstream" but the main title of "The Notebook" is a very romantic and beautiful piano ballad. you can look for it online, or go by the soundtrack - it's gorgeous.

Hi everyone! I just got married in CA a month ago, then moved to Wisconsin to be with the hubby for the next 3 years! Don't know much about Wisconsin, but I loved planning our wedding!

5peonies,

My husband is in med school, and he has classmates that perform for weddings all the time. I don't know how much they charge, but we're in Madison. Let me know if you're interested in their info.

Wow, a harpist sounds so romantic and perfect for a wedding!

We are getting married at the Gesu church on the Marquette campus in Milwaukee and they are ridiculously strick about everything. They want us to use their recommended musicians (understandable - it's probably less rehearsal time). They are charging $225 per musician.

I know nothing about music, but I always love the weddings that have the string quartets. Is $225 per musician a little high or average?

I am planning a wedding in Milwaukee from Mexico City, so I can definitely relate to the difficulties in long-distance planning! We are having our reception at Lakefront Brewery, which we are absolutely thrilled about. The only downside is that they have plastic chairs, which do not fit under the typical folding or banquet chair covers. The only chair covers that fit are by a lady who made them specifically for the Lakefront Chairs. Unfortunately it would cost us $1400 to rent them (includes the covers, bows, cleaning, set-up, and take-down).

In reality, this is a pretty good deal. I'm just wondering if would be better to rent new chairs instead of dealing with the covers. Does anyone know of a place we could rent 300 chairs for $1400 or less?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if you found anyone or not to do your hair - it looks like you posted this 3 months ago. I went to college in Milwaukee. and grew up just north of the city. I believe I have one of the city's best hairstylists for my July 2009 Milwaukee wedding (coincidently she is also a good friend of mine). Her name is Kaia and she works at Yan Salon: <span class="a">www.yanhair.com. She might even be willing to come to your house, but you'll have to ask - I'm not sure what her schedule looks like.

Best of luck!

I wanted a string quartet originally, but ended up going with a harpist for a couple reasons. One of the reasons was that it was about half the cost easier to find!

Rachel Avery was who we went with, and she was fantastic. I'm kind of a music buff, and highly recommend her. We even got a mini private concert in her home as her audition!

She played everything from Pachelbel's Cannon in D to some of the soundtrack to Braveheart (and even had to transpose it from the original score to harp music!) And for outdoor weddings, she brings a little mini microphone and amplifier just in case it's windy.

If you'd like her email, just message me and I'll get it to you. :)

Hi and congrats to all of you!

I am living in the quasi Madison area and getting married at my childhood home in the country, June 20, 09.

Carl's cakes are the best, and I am not usually a cake fan. We are having peanut butter pie instead. Yummy!

Does any one have a suggestion for a string quartet that travels? The site is 45 min from Madison and/or Janesville.

Thanks in advance!

If you are interested in renting, check out www.gagas.com. You can rent a FG dress (or RB tux) for about $20 for two weeks!

Also, Craigslist is a great resource. My best friend found her adorable FG's dress there for $25, but there were many new/unused ones for just a little bit more. Milwaukee's CL has quite a few.
