I'm debating whether or not to use Nicole Deanne or Jeanne SanDiego for my hair/makeup. Has anyone worked with or heard of these ladies? If so, please share your experience with me. I can't afford trials with both. Jeanne is also a bit pricier...she's charging $200 more than Nicole.

Have you considered having a silhouette artist at your reception? A lot of brides in the Los Angeles area are choosing to do this as a unique wedding favor for their guests and themselves. My husband Karl Johnson is a 3rd generation silhouette artist and his website is www.cutarts.com if you want to check it out.

You could always ask a friend with a camera to take the pictures, craigslists always have cheap wedding gowns and wedding bands, ask a talented friend to do the ceremony and reception music...etc...there are many ways around this!

or...

you could always just elope first, then when you have money saved up, throw a proper recpetion with all the pazaa that you originally had wanted!

Maybe a way to save would have been to create your own invites and not hire a DOC... Thats what my fiance and I had to do! My suggestion is stay minimal and DIY where ever possible! Instead of splurging for a DOC (which believe me, I SWORE I needed) I am creating tasks for various family members to help with. They are all minimal, but will save us a lot of money! Good luck :)

If you are already in debt, I wouldn't add further to it by wedding loans. Can you elope & then have a couple potluck receptions in whatever towns house most of your guests? That way you could still see everyone, and do a minimoon out of the travelling?

Or, put what you need on your website & see if anyone volunteers. If you know someone that was recently married, maybe they will loan you their stuff for free?

Wow wish I could have had a free wedding! That would be incredible. Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom as we spent way TOO much on our wedding. I am sure it will be amazing. Bartering is definitely a great system and maybe have the ceremony/reception in someone's backyard. Good luck!

Hey Everyone,

For the past 2 months I have been planning my wedding with a VERY small budget of $10k that my mom had set aside for us. Unfortunately, just before I put the deposit down on our location, she had to back out due to the stock market crashing and economy going south.

I'm not really sure what to do now. My fiance and I had originally planned to elope, but after so much planning, we are really set on having an actual wedding. We are both already working out of a mountain of debt, so I'm slowly coming around to the idea of trying to put together a nearly-free wedding.

I've already bartered with my wedding day coordinator and invitation printer, so those will be free. Any other suggestions or advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks,

Sara

Pine Hill Cleaners on Topanga Cnyn and Roscoe right past the 101 does great alterations. The lady there works wonders and she is sweet and understanding of time restraints. I guess you can exit off the 101 on Topanga, pretty close to Westlake Village.

This is totally a personal choice but something to consider- are any of your attendees adept with a standard video camera? We are big film/photo people (I majored in photo/my FI minored in film) and we are not having a videographer but just having someone operate the camera during the ceremony and speeches.

Unless you really want a high quality play by play of your wedding, you can trim your budget by foregoing the videographer and focusing (no pun intended) on a photographer. My FI minored in film at 'SC and friends always ask him to shoot video. He actually does an awesome job!

Great suggestions! If you wanted to go a little further east, The Backyard at The W in Westwood is gorgeous. I've worked with them several times for different events and they are generally nice and accomodating. You cannot beat the atmosphere - it's as if you are at a destination wedding.

Hi Arlene,

I attended a wedding there last October and it was really good

The couple had a buffet dinner (I think it was Italian) and the food was very delicious. The premise is very clean well-maintained.

I had no complain :) For the price, I think it's very worth it

So I called the flagship store, and she told me that the dress is $6500 bucks! And, it' would be "unlikely" that I will find the dress in California because the dress is going to be discontinued in 60 days. The name of the dress is "Thank You".

It doesn't help much b/c when I google Thank You, the results were all over the place! Not narrowing my search at all...

*SIGH* what to do next? i don't want to pay $6500...
