Hi hive, I didn't want to add on to the other bee's thread so I just want to get some feedback on helping any NYC/NJ brides who may or are still seeking WP's or DOC's?

I been an event planner for over 12 years and for the last 8, I been planning corporate and meetings. I just had my wedding in May 2008 and realized myself how much I missed "designing, inspiring and planning" the day. So I was thinking why not go back to it and begin my own company. I would love to get a couple of brides who need help, are getting married soon so I can add to my portofolio.

I would contract myself at a discounted rate (for gas and travel fees included) after that but that is some feedback I need...what would be to much for lovely future brides and what would be acceptable for me to ask..?

Also, if anyone is interested as well, please PM me. My wedding was featured in the NY Post, stylemepretty and The Daily News next month and the Wedding Bee also has my wedding photos up.

I got my dress and veil at Kleinfeld and got both at a discounted price. I didnt negotiate outright but did mention that I was torn between the their dress and another from Pronovias (I preferred the Kleinfeld dress). The consultant was a doll and spoke with her manager and at the end they gave me a 12% discount for both.

Good luck!

I negotiated. we ended up getting about 15% off (maybe a little more or a little less, can't remember exactly). I was getting my dress off the rack about 2 months before the wedding, and loved the dress, AND was strapped for time, so it was obvious that my options were limited - they STILL offered me a discount because they wanted to close the deal. Never hurts to try! Good luck!

I had the same experience as Janna -- the dress I liked the best was a little above my price range, and the girl could tell we weren't going to spend that much and clearly wanted to close the deal that day, so she offered us a discount before I even tried to negotiate, AND offered to throw in a veil for free. I believe they do mark their gowns up a good bit so they can afford to come down a little on the prices if it's necessary to close a sale.

The salesperson we had at Kleinfeld's in August was very willing to "do better" on the price of the same dress we had seen in Chicago. It became a non-issue when we decided not to buy at Kleinfeld's so we didn't press on with negotiating but I'm confident she would have come done from the asking price in order to get the sale.

I looked there and the woman could tell I wasn't sold on the dress sostarted telling me she could get me a discount of 10-15% or so - I didn't even ask for it but she really wanted to close the sale. If you find a dress you like, just tell the salesperson you love it, but it is out of your price range, or you found one somewhere else that is less (make it 20% or so less).....My guess is that their business will be impacted like everyone else in this economy and they will haggle, as long as you are reasonable. Good luck!

PS - I did not buy my dress there in the end!

I purchased my gown there, but I didn't consider negotiating. I don't really know if they really do that there. They may be kinda snotty about it. On their show (Say Yes to that Dress) a couple brides did try to do it, I think one girl was successful. Don't they have a sample sale coming up soon? I think they do a huge one in Feb.

As someone who is totally not comfortable whatsoever in negotiating prices I am sort of hesitant to even try, but I hear a lot of brides do it. I know it doesn't hurt to ask, but just wondering if anyone was successful at negotiating your wedding gown price at Kleinfeld's and if so, how you did it and how much you negotiated?! Thanks, and happy weekend!

I am looking to find out which boutiques in NYC or suburbs carry Christos gowns. I tried on Christos 5006 that I REALLY liked at the salon in Chicago where I live, but the px quoted was (gasp) over $5,000 ! I am willing to pay in mid 3,000, max 4,000 for a new dress or sample in good condition.

http://www.christosbridal.com/gowns/2006/05006.shtml

Anybody can suggest a place to go ? I also posted on Chicago board but given that my fiance lives in NYC and I plan to move back, either Chicago or NYC works.

Thank you.
