We are paying $1650 in downtown Boston for 5 hours ... CrackerJack Entertainment. He did my brothers wedding and we loved him so we couldn't say no. I asked a similar question on the Boston Knot board and it seemed like some of them were finding people more along the $1200 price range -- but they were mostly outside of the city.

Hope that helps!

I just found a bridal shop (I haven't been yet but I will be going) It's called Bridal Secret in Quincy. I was having the same problem you were only finding places with some not so great reviews this one has over 50 positive reviews! I have a similar budget as well and they claim (and the reviewers back it up) that they have 100's of dresses under $1000. I'm finally excited to go shopping now!

Another place I found is precious memories in Malden (I got a bridesmaid dress there) They seem to have a wide mix of prices and some really nice dresses too. I found a beautiful Maggie Sottero dress there for under $600. But I was just picking up the bridesmaid dress they altered for me and they did a terrible job altering it. (My fiancee won't even look me in the eyes when I put the dress on its that bad) So I"m not sure I actually want to shop there again.

I'm paying $700 for 5 hours of DJ service (cocktail hr and 4 hr reception). My DJ is very laid back. He said he'd be as involved or as uninvolved as we wanted, which was important to us, because nothing creeps me out more than a cheesy, sequin-vest, self-promoting DJ. He gave us a discount, so I don't want to put his info here, but if you're interested, PM me and I'll give you his website.

We used C-Zone Music, and we had a guitarist, saxophonist, and drummer for the ceremony and cocktail hour (2 hrs), and then a DJ for 4 more hours, and it was $1800 total. Greg is the owner, and fantastic. I think for just DJ services for only 4.5 hrs he might be around $1200 or less. But they are definitely worth checking into. I don't think they really advertise, just go by word of mouth, which is also good. They have a website, just search C-zone music.

I am getting married in June down the Cape, and our DJ is from the South Shore area and our Dj is $1500 for 6 hours of music (6pm to midnight). His normal cost is $1800, but we were referred by a friend who used him last year. Anything in the $1400-$2000 is a pretty good price. :o)

I am getting married this January in Cambridge and I have recieved a quote for a dj (recommended by the hotel) which seems very high. $1400 for basic dj services from 7:30-12:00 midnight. Maybe it because I am not well versed on the many aspects (set-up, equipment, etc) it takes to dj.

has any one else recently gotten married in Boston area and what was the price of your dj?

I don't believe there are too many Filipino caterers in general, much less that specialize for weddings. However, I was able to find a small Filipino caterer http://www.kakain-na.com/ who you might be able to work with. I believe he does smaller events but might be able to do your wedding or refer you to someone else. Or http://jnjturoturo.com/ , they're a restaurant but they do some catering events as well. Hope this helps!

I'm a Filipino who is getting married to a wonderful Irish girl in Boston and I am at a loss! Any vendor that does a full wedding (rentals, wait staff, etc.) has no understanding of what real Pinoy food is about. They think "chinese spring rolls" instead of "lumpia" with sweet and sour dipping sauce. They don't understand lichon or adobo or how to incorporate our Filipino /need/ (and I mean NEED) for jasmine rice. Are there any catering chefs who you lovely bees could point me to? Ones who are willing to do authentic Filipino fare? mixed with traditional Irish cuisine?

i'm back from my friend's wedding at the commanders mansion.

it was a beautiful mansion, but a couple thoughts.

it was pouring rain all weekend. the ceremony was going to be outside but they moved in inside the mansion. there are many lovely rooms inside, but the problem is that they're all pretty small. so there wasn't enough room for chairs. we all had to stand, packed in like sardines, and then we had to create an aisle when it was time for the procession. if you're having a small wedding, this wouldn't be such a problem.

the other option they had was to have the ceremony under the tent, but my friend didn't go that route.

the tent itself is spacious and it's brick so there wasn't any mud or anything like that, which was a bonus.
