Try Priscilla of Boston in Wynnewood, PA. I don't know what your budget is, but they have beautiful dresses and the service is awesome. You will need to make an appointment though, but it's worth it. I just got my dress there and felt like a princess during my entire visit.

Hello!

Can you guys suggest places to shop for dresses downtown? I am going to be in the city for wedding planning and thought it would be nice to try on dresses with my Mom. I'll probably get my dress in Chicago, but I need to make my Mom feel apart of the process.

Also, are there any nice bridal consignment places in Philly? There is a great shop here http://whitechicago.com/. Is there anything like this there?

One last question. Out of the Brides that live in another state, but are or did get married in Philly..where did you buy your dress? I am so torn as to if I should get it in Chicago since it will be easier for alterations, or buy it in on the east coast. Sorry, to ramble, I'm just stressed lately by dress shopping and my Mother's neediness to to be involved.

Thank you!

Thanks for the advice! The ceremony doesn't have anywhere to get ready ... and I'm waiting to hear back from the reception hall (Belle Voir Manor). In the meantime I'll check out some of the Bed and Breakfasts in the surrounding towns mentioned.

Note to self, never plan a wedding in another city again, lol.

Where are you having your reception in Bensalem? I think you can ask your ceremony site if they would allow you to get ready in the basement or if they have some room you could use? You can always toss white sheets over any ugly stuff in the room and then put a full-length mirror up as the backdrop for photos? If they don't have anywhere for you at the ceremony site, bgcrispin is right, you can check out areas outside of Philly that might have bed and breakfasts. I know Newtown and Langhorne and beautiful and historical, so they might have somewhere. You can also try Manayunk, Media, or Chestnut Hill because they are closer to Philly. Also, I would ask the ceremony and reception sites if they could recommend a place and everywhere that you call, ask them if they can recommend a place since you are not from the area.

I have not heard of Laurie Baldwin but I am using Darya Latham for my Sept. 20th wedding in CC. She will be coming to the bridal suite and uses MAC makeup. I had my trial with her a while back and she is absolutely AMAZING!!! All of my girls have decided to get theirs done as well since they have seen my trial pics.

Our hotel offered us a "hospitality sweet" for some guests to hang out in the time before the reception starts. Maybe your hotel has something like this that would be larger than a single hotel room and be able to accomadate everyone?

I was able to get rooms at the Embassy Suites on Ben Franklin Parkway for well under $300 a night (of course I also booked the block a year and a half in advance.) Not sure what the rate is now, but you also might check out bed and breakfasts in the area that will have lower prices (and cool backgrounds for your getting ready pics.) Good luck!

My fiance and I live in Baltimore, MD ... but to make life easier for the families (coming from RI and VA) we split the distance and are havng the wedding in Philadelphia (ceremony) / Bensalem (reception).

Problem is, we can't figure out where to get ready, since we don't live in Philly and don't know anyone that lives there either. We originally assumed we'd get ready at the hotel, but the hotel we like near the reception hall (block for guests) doesn't have any suites, so 8 women, plus the photographer, would need to squish in a normal size hotel room, and traditional "looking in the mirror" pictures would be in the bathroom ... not acceptable.

We looked at hotels in Philly itself ... Gorgeous suites! But they are all remarkably expensive. We can't find anything for less than $350 a night, and if we're going to keep the tradition of not seeing eachother the morning of the wedding, then my fiance and his guys need a suite for getting ready, and my girls and I need a suite for getting ready ... which runs $700 a night for the two rooms, and with check out at 11 and the ceremony at 3, we would really need to book two night and make that hotel our "bridal suite" for the night of the wedding.

I'm running out of ideas, and could REALLY use some suggestions. Ideally I'd like to find a reasonably nice hotel that we could get ready in, that won't cost an arm and a leg. The other idea would be find somewhere else to get ready, that would provide enough room, and look nice in pictures.

I believe the first 50 (?) are free, and the rest have a few cents charge per envelope. You can go and leave your box with the post office, and also make sure to include one for yourself in there, so you know it was definitely handcancelled and mailed out. They should be able to do it that day. I heard Saturday early morning is the best.

I'm nearing the end of a frustrating florist search. I have one vendor I like, but would love to have someone for comparison purposes. The other florist I really enjoyed meeting never called me back for the follow-up he promised!
