I'm currently trin the middle of dress shopping. I've only been to David's - where I didn't really expect to find a dress but had to give it a try and New York Bride in Syracuse. My top choices are from New York Bride, but does anyone have any suggestions where else to shop in the Syracuse/Elmira/Rochester area?

Although I haven't used him as a photographer, Josh Baldo lives in Oneonta and does wedding photography. I know him and his wife through friends since I went to Oneonta for college. Check out his website: http://www.joshbaldo.com/about

It also looks like his pricing would fall within your budget. Best of luck!!

Hi ladies,

We are currently searching for a photographer, so I thought I'd see if you all have any recommendaitons.

We are getting married in Cooperstown, so we are looking at photographers based out of Albany, Syracuse and anywhere in between. We are hoping to keep day-of shooting costs to about $2,500 or so (wth albums and whatnot being extra), so someone who is just starting out but who has good potential would be great for us.

If you have any photographers you suggest we check out please let me know. Thanks very much!

Sounds like some BS Lawyer got involved in that case. Not really sure how you could challenge the validity when you have a marriage certificate signed by witnessing parties and have been living as if married...In the grand scheme of things, I feel that it will be a more personal and special ceremony having our dear friend officiating than if we were to have a total stranger. I'm willing to take the risk...

... FI and I wanted to have a friend do our ceremony - but looking into the facts further, although it appears that an online ordination will work... if the marriage was to fail, and you or your husband wanted to challenge the validity of the marriage, it could be seriously challenged. I know in Pennsylvania they overturned marriages as invalid due to online ordinations...

I would just play it safe and find an actual J.O.P. or minister to marry you....

Yep, we did a Universal Life minister too - and they ARE officially ordained and authorized to perform weddings, so in most parts of NYS you should be good! In NYC I think you have to get an additional form for them to complete (?) so you should check with your county regardless, but a ULC-ordained minister is still a minister!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper space I could rent for the rehearsal dinner in Rochester. We want to have Dino BBQ cater, but I really can't think of a place nearby that rents out just the space. Fire-halls are more than OK. Thanks!

Garden roses are super expensive...My florist actually grows them herself, so I might end up with some, but I'm not going to fret. The flowers will be gorgeous either way. They are way down on my list of most important things.

NYAmber, late May. There were some things I liked that they said they probably couldn't order for me, such as sweetpea, but she didn't say anything about not being able to get garden roses, so I'm assuming they are a go. I'm not sure about the not being able to get them commercially, as I have a friend who used them for her sister's wedding, but I don't know where they came from. I can't do raunculus because they will probably be gone by then, but they're pretty also!

Woohoo for photogs that travel!

I've seen Paul Johnson (from FL) with some beautiful pics!

http://pauljohnsonphoto.com/

Also liked (portfolio and in person) Genya Garret of VUE photography.

http://genyasvue.com/

and I love love love my photog (Rae Leytham) and they travel!

RAE LEYTHAM ROCKS!!!

I love love love her. Absolute best decision I have made for the wedding (and thats saying something because I got a deal on my dress and I love it.)

And this is how I picked her:

http://barefootstargazer.blogspot.com/2008/08/vendor-bender-photography.html

Oh - and I did a boudoir shoot with them. WOW!! So fun and amazing amd my FI is going to flip when he sees my (tastefully) uber sexy shots!!

Cannot reccommend enough!
