The Westin in Jersey City has a smaller room (besides their ballroom) that you can use for functions. They are opening in Feb 09 and their wedding package is more than your budget but you might be able to work something out for a smaller party.

Places in Hoboken:

Try some of the restaurants along Frank Sinatra Drive - 340 Grill etc

You can also rent out the upstairs room at the Brass Rail ...ask if they can fit dancing though, I'm not sure.

And I don't know if Amanda's will be more than your budet but their food is AMAZING so it's worth calling.

City Bistro has a roof top bar that would a great spot, not sure if they rent it out.

Lola's Tapas Bar also has a private room.

Let me know if you need more!

Here are a few waterfront suggestions in the Hoboken/Weehawken area:

Chart House & Liberty House I believe are in your price range (just not sure what their minimum is). Also, there is a Hyatt in Jersey City you can look into.

Mario's Restaurant (italian style pizzaria) in Clifton is reasonable priced. Had my FI's sisters RD there and the food was buffet style and yummy. (Not Essex Co, but close!)

Hi, I was very particular about my DJ because I felt like a lot of companies had very young inexperienced kids. I booked Touch Of Class DJ's out of Kearney. The owner and his wife run the business and are very experienced. They show you a video of the actual DJ that will be doing your wedding - mine is Richie because the owner already had an event that day. They are very helpful and very reasonable. They also offer the pianist that you mention for cocktail hour I think. I was told by several people to stay away from The Pros as that one post mentioned.

As for hair in your area, I have no idea - I haven't gotten that far with mine yet. Sorry :(

i just booked a DJ/cocktail hour pianist combo through Craig Scott Entertainment... they have a whole bunch of musicians and DJs to choose from, and from the videos we saw, they seem to have a range of styles, ranging from very in-the-background (our preference) to verging on annoying MC-ish.

I ended up winning two upgrades for my package. They are nationwide but my reception is in Jersey City.

DJ-- Absolutely stay away from DJ Jeffrey Heart. You can check my review of him on the other websites.

Makeup-- LOVED Dawn at the Christian Dior Makeup counter at Neiman Marcus at Garden State Plaza. My mom has been buying makeup from her, and that is how we found her. She did an amazingly dramatic but natural job.

Flowers-- Something Nice Floral, not exactly northern NJ, but she travels; she was absolutely our best vendor during the wedding planning process

beware DJ Jeffrey Heart.

Only HALF the songs played at the wedding were from the playlist we provided even though he had assured us several times that he would have them all; we even offered to obtain them for him, but he insisted he was capable of pulling everything from iTunes. We spent hours on that list.

He left the wedding after the ceremony, without telling us, and left a replacement DJ whom we had never met and who had no idea what he was doing.

We sent him the schedule for the reception twice via email, but the replacement DJ did not get that info. He was nervously asking me all these questions about what was supposed to go on before my first dance. I had to re-write the entire schedule for him - in the middle of my own wedding reception!

The replacement DJ announced to the crowd 30 min too early that the wedding was ending, so people left the dance floor and started leaving. When I questioned DJ Heart about this, all he could say was that he is not responsible for when people decide to leave.

The DJ omitted my dedication song to my bridesmaids; DJ Heart again weakly responded that he was NOT contracted to play ANY specific songs even though his own "wedding day form" asks for requests, including bridal party thank you dance-- I guess I should feel lucky he felt like playing the 'first dance' song we had chosen, although he even messed that up with the music starting/stopping/starting and the moment being ruined.

The DJ played the SAME song TWICE during a 3-hr period.

These were the most egregious things. DJ Heart never contacted us to try to tell us why he left early. We contacted him, and I must say that he at least responded very quickly, but denied our complaints even though he wasn't even at the reception, and took no responsibility.

If you don't mind whatever music the DJ plays and don't mind some of your "special songs" not being played, then you may do alright with this DJ. But otherwise, you may have the same problems that we did. We did not receive the "personalized" service that he advertises on his website.

Hey there,

I am struggling to find a good DJ in the North NJ area. I'd ideally like to have a DJ for the reception (can't afford a band!) and a pianist or jazz trip during the cocktail hour. Do you know of any good DJs that offer this combination, and do it well? No annoying MCs either...

Also, any recommendations for hair stylists that can travel to NJ that are also good and affordable? Or salons in Bergen County, NJ that are easy to get to?

Thanks!
