@amnystik: The teenager series can be for parents of teens and for teens too. I actually recommend it to everyone regardless of age. It is hilarious and shows a lot of truth.

I realise that your wedding has almost certainly come and gone, but I had a quick suggestion:

"The way the Methodist church does it is to come to the front, get your bread, dip it in the cup and go back to your seat."

In the Methodist-esque tradition I was raised in, servers handed around small shot glasses of (fake) wine and pieces of bread. You held these in your hands and prayed whilst everyone was served. Then, after everyone, including the preacher (who doesn't eat/drink ahead of you) has both elements in their hands, you pray together, eat the bread at the same time, and drink the (fake) wine at the same time. This might solve the problem, because people can then just subtly ignore the bread and wine as it is passed around, and it won't be obvious who has taken them and who hasn't.

@Sweethart: We actually ordered his "Tale of Two Brains" as well! I have seen his seminar before but my mom lost the tapes in one of her moves =( I can't wait to get all of our teachings! Is that teenagers one FOR teens or for parenting teens?

@Jamcnair: The 5 love languages is SUCH a good book! Knowing how we love is SO important! I also (kinda) read Love & Respect as well..... I have a hard time reading though so I couldn't really get into it.

Another series from Jimmy Evans that is REALLY good is "Indestructible Marriage" GOSH it was SO good! We want to order it so we can have it to reveiw, but it hasn't gone on sale.... we'll have to add it to our list!

And our favorite Parenting series is Biblical Parenting 101 from Joe Mcgee! He also has some great marriage resources and is HILARIOUS! =)

Thanks for sharing :) If you're interested my FI and I absolutely adore Mark Gungor and his teachings on marriage. He also does an awesome teen segment if you know anyone in that age group.

@mandypop: Exactly! Same-sex marriage has been legal here for about 7 years and you won't find a single Catholic Church that has been forced to marry a same-sex couple. You can set the rules for your church, but nobody can base a law on THEIR religion. I'd love to see how people would react if beef was banned if a Hindu PM/President came into power or if nobody was allowed to eat pork under a Jewish PM/President. I have a feeling it wouldn't go over so well, despite the fact that is is essentially the same basis of keeping marriage heterosexual-only.

My church flies the rainbow flag and supports equal rights for all. For a long time (until she retired) we had an openly gay priest. I personally couldn't attend a church not supportive of gay rights. It wouldn't feel moral to me, but I know others who feel very different about the topic.

As a Christian I have never seen a footwashing performed at a wedding. Not to say that some other faiths do it but, at our Church it's meaning is rooted in John 13:10, 14, 16. It's main focus is on humilty--it's an act of service/spriritual lesson

I think if you want a wedding that is Christian focused you could-- forgo the jewlery, the flowers, the "brides maids", fancy clothing and all the non-sense. Wear a modest dress and pick a passage from the Bible that speaks to your husband and yourself to be read at the ceremony. Lastly, have everyone bring a their favorite dish and enjoy fellowship afterwards with friends/family

Religion, to me anyways, can be a touchy subject.

My Fi is Catholic and I (pardon me for not even knowing) am nothing... I dont have anyother feeling towards him because of his religion however, I find that since I do not understand the religion... that it can make me quite uncomfortable at times...

FI and I have talked about me converting and I am not against it and he would never pressure me... but I did tell him that before anything like this happened that I wold have to be aware and knowledgable... and on the same page as him.

Your SO may just be feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable... you obviously love eachother but i do think that both of you need to be on the same page before you go any further... Sit down, and just discuss how this is going to go. Good luck

I read my dad's old Sunday-school book (Lutheran) and it said some really funny things about Catholic beliefs. My mom and I were cracking up about it. Part of it was that Catholics worship Mary and the Saints and worship them as demi-gods with special powers. Lutheranism is pretty close to Catholicism as far as protestant denominations go, too.

Good luck, I hope the pre-marriage counseling goes well! Make sure you point out that you feel like your own beliefs aren't being respected and that you feel like you need to sacrifice your own beliefs for the sake of making your FI happy. That's something that I feel will be a major stumbling block even beyond the wedding if it's not addressed (afterall, you're going to raise your kids as Christians I'm assuming, and don't want their father telling them to hate something that you believe in).

Btw, I'm Catholic again but even when I was away from it I still felt really close to Mary and prayed the rosary when I needed the spiritual strength.
