Hello all-

I just discovered this website and i was so excited to see Latino Wedding board....these are really hard to find.

I am having a traditional Mexican Catholic Wedding with Padrinos for Church, Laso, Arras, etc. but i am not having padrinos for items like reception, invites.

I'm having a Mariachi band, Mexican Folklorico dancers and Calla Lillies are my theme (Diego Rivera-like).

I'm having trouble thinking of favors to go along with the theme. Any ideas??????

I was thinking of having mini tequila bottles with a personal label but i would be afraid too many people would get crazy....

Hello Fellow Bees,

I'm a newlywed, married to a Peruvian. I don't know what the proper way is to address my in-laws. The most natural thing for me to do would be to call them by their first names, but I don't know if they want that. My parents told my hubby straightaway that he should call them by their first names, so he's got no issue.

Until the wedding my inlaws they were Mr and Mrs to me, but it's unnatural to call your inlaws that once you're married, I think. I've asked my husband to ask them what they want to be called and whether I can call them by their first name, but he's resisting that conversation. He says things in Peru are a lot more formal than here and he thinks I should stick to the Mr and Mrs.

Does anyone know what to do or what the custom for this is in Peru..Since my husband has been in the US since he was little and his grandparents live in Peru, he doesn't know for sure what the customs are.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there are any Colombians or Puerto Ricans out there? My fiance is Colombian but lived in PR since he was 7. I've asked him about traditions/music/etc that we can incorporate but he and his family just aren't very forthcoming....!

I've tried to find a Colombian cumbia that we can get our band to play... I kind of just don't even know where to start.

Does anyone have any ideas for things we can incorporate? The only limitation to this is that we're Jewish so anything that may be specifically Catholic or Christian would not really be appropriate.

Thanks!

Just wanted to see if we have many Hispanic brides in the Hive! While I am not Hispanic, Mr. H is and we will be incorporating many of his traditions into the wedding, specifically the ceremony. I'd love to hear from you all and exchange ideas, vendors, etc.!

ok, so who is supposed to put the lazo on us? Originally mr. chitown's aunt and uncle were going to do it-but now it doesn't look like they will be coming to the wedding so FMIL said she and FFIL would do it....my mom thinks that's a no-no...any thoughts???

I don't know how to display these. Should we have them on each table? Or near the cake table like a dessert? I do not want to do them as favors because I already bought the favor boxes and they will not fit.

How are you displaying or passing out your Mexican wedding cookies?

I am Puerto rican but born in NYC and he is Dominican born and raised in the capital. I have been trying to scour sites looking for Dominican customs since no one from his family was married through the church. He is taking his catholocism classes and we'll be married on Sept 6th 2009 where he will also receive 1st Communion and Confirmation. I am so lucky to have been able to be with him these past 10 years and now we'll be together with God's blessing til the very end.

Anyone know about Dominican catholic customs? Most of the customs I learned of like the lazo was attributed to Mexicans and Ecuadorians.
