We are narrowing donw our venue for our Aug/Sept wedding this year - our first choice in the Westchester area is slightly out of our budget, though we are still trying to negotiate with them. After looking at many places, we've narrowed down our second choice to either Scarsdale women's club (aka Rowsley Estate) with Jean-Jacques catering and Crabtree Kittle house. We have pros and cons about each.

Has anyone looked at both and more specifically chose one over the other? Why? What were your thoughts that made you like one less or more? Having trouble deciding between the two so just looking for other thoughts on comparisions

Thanks!

Hey bees! Has anyone been to (or had) a wedding at Round Hill? I'd love to hear your feedback about the space. How many guests were there, and was it crowded? I'm concerned they can't comfortably accomadate my 175 guest wedding... Thanks for any help!

Hello Brides,

I am recently engaged and looking for venues in the Hudson Valley area. We are inviting 140 people. We loved Full Moon Resort, but don't love that you need to guarantee all 52 rooms be rented. This weekend we are looking at Shadow Lawn, Mount Gulian Historic Site, and Bear Mountain Overlook...

From the pics, Shadow Lawn looks amazing but I am worried about the idea of needing to rent toilets. Does anyoen have any experience with this?

Also, I can't find many photos online of Bear Mountain weddings. Does anyone have any positive/negative experiences there?

Thanks!

judithsr on "Costs of DJs (average)?"

I'm finally starting to do the DJ search more officially, and am trying to get a sense of what we should expect to pay. We (hopefully) want to cap our budget at $1,000. (Wow, even writing that sounds insane. Anywho...)

We're getting married at Bear Mountain (outside NYC about an hour), and I contacted the DJs on the vendor recommendation list. One listed a package of $1,100 that seemed to include more than what we want (and he said we could negotiate). Others didn't list price, but one person I spoke with said that for what want (basic music, not other fancy stuff), would be at least $1,400. Then, when I said we hoped to stay under $1,000, he said something about how often people who charge less may not be as good quality. Which could very well be true.

I know DJ costs can vary based on the area. Is it unreasonable to find a DJ for $1,000 for ceremony/cocktail hour/reception, if it's just music and I guess lighting? (Do we even need lighting?)

Hi all,

I am having some trouble finding a DJ for my August wedding. Looking for someone with a good personality who will keep the dance floor packed, without a lot of talking or inflatable guitars, etc. Any recommendations?

Thanks!!

My fiance and I started looking at wedding venues and want something untraditional and really loved feast when we went to visit.. we loved the venue gardens and the fact it was affordable (still need to make it to a tasting to try the food!)

FEAST says they can hold up to 200 people comfortably but my parents thought it would be too small for our expected 150-170 guests..

Has anyone been to or had a wedding there with a larger group of people? Would love your feedback on the experience..

Thanks!

I'm a CT girl using them as my DJ (Nick is the main guy)..wedding is in 3 weeks and I don't hear from him much, he's not getting back to me and now I see his site isn't working. I don't see any google reviews on them either, so I am overall getting nervous. I hope it's just wedding anxiety but I had to ask. He did DJ my sisters's wedding last year, but he was actually covering for a friend who couldnt make it due to work issues. So she didn't actually have his whole company...

any info anyone has is appreciated! thanks.

Hi hive!

I am looking for a wedding venue in the boston/north shore/south shore or new york/long island/hudson valley areas. In my mind, I keep picturing a wedding ceremony underneath a giant oak tree or something to the likes of it, followed by a reception (preferably at the same location) in a hall with high, beamed ceilings (see inspiration photos below).

In my research, I keep finding venues that completely fit the bill in California, but I can't seem to find the same thing here in the Northeast! Places I have investigated so far include: Onteora Mountain House, Shadow Lawn at High Falls, Old Field Club, Elm Banks at Mass Horticultural Society, Larz Anderson Park - but most of these do not have a giant tree that I keep picturing for the ceremony (except for Larz Anderson, but I'm not really feeling the Auto Museum as a reception venue...).

So I'm reaching out to the hive, since you guys are just full of resources :) I would appreciate any tips on finding my dream venue!

Hello Bees,

Happy New Year to all!!

We are in the process of researching wedding DJs. We are getting married at the Round Hill on Oct 4, 2012. We found a vendor that actually provides numerous services including MC/DJ, photo booth & photographer (Te Cache Photography). They are quoting pretty good prices & willing to work with me. Before we book I wanted to find out if any Bees have heard of them, reviews or used them in the past. The vendor name is Music Speaks Volumes. They are a Hudson Valley vendor. Thank you in advance :)
