That stinks! I wanted to do ao dai too there is this webite called aodaivinh.com that i was going to order from. They work out of Vietname and my friend used them for her wedding and said the dresses were perfect. Then i changed my mind about doing ao dai's because i found other dresses that i fell in love with. if you do decide to use this website let me know how it went, good luck!

Update to my last post on Aodaivinh.com:

Ao Dai Vinh finally contacted me back after 3 weeks timeframe from the point I first contacted them about the problem. They were apologetic about the issue and agreed to give me a 50% refund, which they did. In terms of the fit, everything fit perfectly. The fabric material of the outer jacket was made out of polyester; the picture on the website looked like satin.

I'm Filipino American and my fiance is Swedish. We're having a very small, non-religious, outdoor ceremony in Sweden. This thread got me thinking about incorporating the veil, candle, and cord tradition.

Veil Sponsors (to “clothe” us as one)

Cord Sponsors (to “bind” us in love)

Candle Sponsors (to “light” our path)

We're not following any of the other traditions at all. For instance, we intend to have a photo session in our wedding attire way before the actual ceremony (it'll be like our private dress rehearsals). We will arrive at the ceremony together, in fact we will likely change into our wedding clothes in our apartment. We won't have ninangs, ninongs, or even a bridal party. We haven't completely decided yet, but we will likely have a wedding dinner the night before our morning ceremony. It will be a short ceremony followed by an initmate lunch, then off we go to our honeymoon!

Can anyone help me locate any gifts for a vietnamese wedding gift. I am the grooms mother and want to present the brides parents with some traditional gifts. I know about the typical nuts, leaves, tea, cake, fruits etc. But where can I get these all put together. I am traveling a long distance and I would like to have these items sent to my sons home before the wedding. It would work for me if the were places in a nice box or on a tray with the traditional red cloth. Any suggestions would be helpful.

hello pinay brides!

i'm full filipina (born and raised in PI) and my fiance as well. for the pinay brides concerned with their dresses during the money dance, it is acceptable to have a sash where guests can pin the money. although i'm still debating about actually doing one, i think my family would appreciate the nod to the tradition. men would be wearing barongs (i finally convinced FH to wear one, yipee!!!). my florist and photogs are filipinos, so for brides looking for filipino vendors, just let me know. also for filipino tailors, you can contact fernando de manila in los angeles. he is somewhere in hollywood (fountain and normandie, i believe)... as for my favors, we are having a filipino delicacy buffet bar hahaha i think this would be cheaper! my FMIL would be flying in from the philippines like a week or two before the wedding and i asked her to bring filipino delicacies.

to catlady: my fiance's mom and 2 sisters are in the philippines and he feels obligated to fly them here (to the US). i feel your pain coz we are also paying for the wedding ourselves. it's gonna be a big chunk out of our budget so we are still deciding as to what to do...

to other pinoy brides: how can i tactfully say that only mr and mrs so and so are invited and not the whole family? ughhh! this rsvp thing is killing me!!!!!!!!

i'm so glad to have found you all! :) I'm half filipina (and black) but might as well be whole (born and raised there - mom's from cebu, I speak visayan) I just posted on another board about looking for filipino traditions to incorporate into my wedding and you all have just about answered them (thank you!) I am still on the fence about venue and place - I know I'm going to have a destination wedding but a small part of me wants to go for it and have it in the P.I. only problem is I know everybody and their mama on my mom's side will show up uninvited lol. *sigh* but my mom has passed away (and buried in her home village) and I'm sure she would have absolutely loved the idea of it and I'd feel like she was a part of the day moreso than anywhere else. my FI and I only have 1 parent so there really is no issue of big families - just tons of friends (which is nice too).

Hi Bees,

I've never been to an Asian wedding that was open seating! They all would have assigned tables and chances are you've been placed at a certain table b/c you know others there. Family members help serve as ushers and there are always a few people w/ the entire guest list standing near the tables that can help any guests that get lost. Also, the room is sometimes divided in half - groom or bride side.
