Can anyone help me locate any gifts for a vietnamese wedding gift. I am the grooms mother and want to present the brides parents with some traditional gifts. I know about the typical nuts, leaves, tea, cake, fruits etc. But where can I get these all put together. I am traveling a long distance and I would like to have these items sent to my sons home before the wedding. It would work for me if the were places in a nice box or on a tray with the traditional red cloth. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hey ladies!

I'm getting married next May and I would like to have ao dais custom made for me and my 4 BMs in VA/DC. So far, I've had an ao dai made by a lady that lives in Falls Church but the fit was awful!! I had to spend another $40 (on top of the $80 she charged me) to have it fixed. When I demanded that the fit wasn't correct, her response was, "That's the way I sew them." I'm not even going to bother going to Eden b/c I've heard they tried to charge some people nearly $500!! And I've heard some horror stories about ordering online. Any suggestions for local ao dai makers?

Do not buy your ao dai dress at aodaivinh.com! I received a dress that looked quite different from what was shown on the website. On the website, style 164 shows a red jacket with embroidered edges and an embroidered dragon and phoenix on the front. When I received the ao dai, those things that were supposed to be embroidered were painted on! It looked cheap! I thought that when I purchased the dress at $100 that I was getting a great deal, but you pay for what you get. I have contacted the company to complain about the "false advertising" and have not heard a peep from them. My next step is a credit card dispute. Do not put yourself through all this to save a few bucks; it's not worth it!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or any ideas on how to incorporate two different cultures. I'm Cambodian and my fiance is Orthodox. I don't want to go through the whole cambodian ceremony and he is dead set on having an orthodox church ceremony. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to show both cultures without being too much in favor of one. Any advice or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I have a traditional tea ceremony in the morning and American ceremony in the evening. I need a hairstyle that will accommodate the hat that goes with the ao dai, which may not go with my wedding dress. I've considered getting my hair done twice, but it seems excessive. What is everyone else planning to do?

i've been to numerous asian weddings with open seating for 300 and never found any problems or people having no one to talk to.

i will do rsvp cards for head count but because of my experience with asian weddings, i wonder how necessary it is to have a seating chart..any thoughts?

maybe a couple reserved tables for immediate family. (wedding party will be at the head table.)

I've been trying to find just the right Vietnamese traditions to incorporate into my wedding. I've decided not to change mutliple times - the ao dai i have is not very comfortable to wear. The groom going to the bride's family's home is not practical and we've decided not to see each other before the ceremony.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

This is similar to the Phillipino post but not exactly.

I just heard from my sister that Vietnamese usually don't RSVP. Also, if they don't RSVP, it is not appropriate to call them and ask them if they are coming. How am I suppose to give my caterer a final count?

Has anyone had to deal with this problem? This is a budgeted wedding and I can't just add a full table for people who "might" come.

Also, I'm planning on having assigned seating. I don't want the people who didn't bother to RSVP sitting at a table where other people are sitting.

BTW, I'm vietnamese, my FH is american. We invited about 170 guests.

And we are having food stations, so there's really no time to go from table to table asking people for toasts. We are having a cocktail hour, we I can do a lot of meeting and greeting. Will that be ok?

Hello Pinay brides!

I am having a big, fat Filipino wedding. Ok, not as big as my auntie's (1000 people!!! it boggles the mind!) but fat for American standards: about 350 adults & children, and then 40 kids under 5 (mini baby boom amongst my thirtysomething girlfriends and relatives).

We have strict capacity requirements for our venue (thank God -- or else we'd probably have close to 500).There is no way we can go over 400. Absolutely no way.

So, I am trying to figure out how..

1) to get Filipinos to RSVP!!!! I know I've been guilty of this as well. We, as a people, just do not know how to do this. At my niece's wedding, four families (with kids, in-laws, and even boyfriends and girlfriends and dates!!!) showed up when they didn't RSVP. One family showed up uninvited!

2) To word the RSVP card politely so that I give a strong signal that ONLY family and long-term partners are invited, and not random dates or plus ones. For example, I have written (on the insistence of my family) "and family" on the invitations, and have included the children I know of on the guest list and on total head count. Now, how do I make sure that extras don't come along, or "+14" doesn't get written on the RSVP. Now, I know that one option is to put "X seats have been reserved in your honor." But sometimes people cross that out...

Unfortunately, asking my mom to call folks and clarify who is invited and how many "and family" means just isn't an option. She's really disorganized and we don't have everyone's numbers, and she's such a softie she'll end up telling them they can bring the neighbors as well.

Help!
