It all depends on whether the buttercream is real buttercream or not. Real buttercream, like its name, is made from butter.  And what happens to butter in the heat? "Fake" buttercream is sometimes made with vegetable shortening (Crisco) which will hold up better in the heat, but it a bit more on the greasy tasting side. Fondant would hold up the best because of its consistency.  If the cake has been coated with icing before the fondant is attached then it should hold fairly well.  If you contemplate fondant, ask the baker if you can taste it to see if you could deal with the taste/flavor.  You could also ask how thin of a layer they can make without causing inconsistencies with the look of the cake. Ask at what temperature the fondant might start to sweat. Also ask what they can do in the event that the fondant should start to sweat. Just some food for thought :-)

Ours was a swarovski crystal encrusted Coqui Prince which was perfect for our DW in Puerto Rico. I have always said I had to kiss a lot of toads to find my prince.

I don't plan on having a cake topper.  If I do, it'll be the letter "S" (married last name).  I like to go for something a little less traditional.
