It's true that there is such a tradition in Chinese wedding.

And Chinese people give priority over different kinds of wedding custom and traditions and also abide by them firmly.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Uniquely Yours in Northridge. Carmela stepped on the dress with her dirty sneakers FOUR times, lost beads off the dress, and chopped off the bottom of the dress without asking - all during the quote!

I'd advise to use a shop, even if it's more expensive. An individual can do a bad job and still charge you, like this lady did. The extra money is a guarantee that they are held responsible for damage to your dress!

I love the Jane Austen free font from dafont.com. I used it on my STD envelopes and everyone asked me how long I had to practice to write so beautifully! People were astonished when I admitted that I printed their addresses! Scriptina is nice, but in order to read it right you have to blow it up so big the spacing starts looking funny. Killigraphy has a funny name, but it looks very much like calligraphy. No swirls or anything, but it does look very hand written. EightFifteen and Hanibal Lecter both look nice too, although they too lack tons of swirls and fancy bits.

I actually found a font that looks like I (or a professional) handwrote it when printed, it is on dafont.com under calligraphy, called Jellyka Saint Andrew's Queen. It is a funky font, but since my invites are sort of on the non-traditional side it works.

Hi,

I think you can invite her, and be the bigger person. However, she probably might not attend because she can be that traditional. If she does attend, then she says one thing and does another.

Hi,

I'm an American born Chinese and my parents are from Hong Kong. I have actually heard about that. My mom told me it's bad luck if the two "clash" by attending each other's wedding in a short period of time.

My mom told me that it is bad luck to have two son's hold weddings in the same year. That is "clashing" within the family.

It's true if you believe it, otherwise it should not bother anyone. Hope this helps.

I'm chinese/vietnamese and I don't agree with many of the traditions in my family, so needless to say those traditions will die with my generation! For the time being, there's really nothing you can do, after all it's not your wedding. Does it seem like your cousin agrees with it? Or she is just going along with it b/c her fiance's family is overbearing? I have seen brides get bullied by asian families and that's just not cool. Don't mean to pass judgment on your cousin, it's just that this stuff happens way too often, so brides need to stand up for themselves. But, if she actually agrees with the whole bad luck thing, then don't invite her! Invite someone else who would actually want YOU at their OWN wedding. :)

Whoops I didn't realize that this post was written months ago. How did everything turn out?

@krissycake - those came out beautiful! How lovely, that font is perfect

@ladybuglove - not sure about krissycake's but mine ended up taking about 15 minutes per invite (outer and inner). We also had many with 5-6 lines of text (2 guest names instead of Mr and Mrs, since we live in NYC and lived in DC a lot of Apartment No. ##, etc) Plus mine is a thicker font so there was a lot of filling in.
