I don't know if you girls have credit cards or not but I like putting the expensive charges on my card, paying them off every month and then reaping the rewards from my card. I got $400 cash back a few months ago for my purchases. Not for everyone though since it's really important to not run up debt for your wedding.

use a lighter weight paper for your invitations to save on postage.. remember most people will throw your invitations away anyway!

check wedding bee and other classified's for all of your items

choose vendors that don't own storefronts, they don't have overhead and may be able to give you better pricing

DIY everything you can baby!!

make lists of everything that you need to do and everything that you'll need and pay attention to the sales papers and buy everything on sale or discounted...

pay attention to the newspaper for coupons you can get up to 50% off sometime

I love the postcard savings idea. I did the "ask for discounts" technique on the photography and dress. I got 20% off the dress just by asking. It was awesome. Sometimes all you have to do it ask!

I've noticed how crazy photogrpher prices are! My photog was $500 for 3 hours and the DVD. Granted we are in a really smalll town and no one around here would pay 1000 for pictures. Hope you can find someone that can help you out. With the economy the way it is maybe they are willing to negotiate since the wedding is on a Friday and chances are they wont have a shot at all. You never know until you ask.

Try calling Jennifer Haygood, jbhaygoodphotography.com. She charged me more than that, but if it is a Friday and you only want limited hours, you should talk to her - she's very friendly and started out relatively recently. Plus, she lives in Cary so it wouldn't be far for her! You guys may be able to work out some kind of compromise.

I'll also recommend the student route, but be warned that even $500 for a student photographer is going to be pushing it. I took a ton of photo classes in college and most of my peers who were decent at wedding photography still charged $1000 or more. You might be able to get $500 if you don't want post-processing or prints, just a raw DVD.

Yeah, you should be able to find a student photographer who can do them for that price or lower, especially in the Research Triangle area... there are quite a few universities that way.

Check with local universities and see if there are any photog students who want to build their portfolios. Also check Craig's List!

HELP! I need a photographer for $500. Our budget is $3,000 for the entire wedding and I just cannot fit any more into the pictures. I dont want to put cameras on the tables for the guests to take the pictures, but I fear that is what will happen if I cannot find someone. I know that is a crazy low amount, but my wedding is on a Friday...so maybe that would help cut the cost? I even have a professional quality camera that the photographer can use. I dont want prints, just the finished photos. Anyone with suggestions, PLEASE send my way!
