I love the Strand tote bags mentioned in Mr. Bee's post, and think that something from a local shop/restaurant would be great (esp. if most of your family/friends are from NYC -- they don't need a Statue of Liberty key chain).

What about an "I heart NY" coffee mug with a gift card to Dean & Deluca or Starbucks for a cup of coffee.

Here are some ideas from the wiki!

A really, really good city map with the subway map over streets.

Zagat guide (restaurants or nightlife) or copy of Time Out New York

Apples

Starbucks gift card

Your choice of ethnic or specialty foods. Unique food shops in NYC: Magnolia Bakery, Sweets from Serendipity, Chocolate Bar, Peanut butter co., etc

http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Out-of-Town_bag

Another neat idea!

ok bees. i have looked and looked and need some good ideas for our OOT bags. our wedding is in SC but we (and pretty much all of our family/friends) live in NYC.

so - our OOT bags are going to be very "southern" but in an effort to make it reflect 'us' we wanted to include something kind of new york-y.

i thought of apples (the big apple - i know - how cheesey) but our wedding is in may and we didn't think they would taste that great. then we thought of "i heart NYC" bumper stickers but thought those would just go right in the trash.

all ideas welcome bees!

I went into M&J's Wedding Salon once and the price on the birdcage veil was so scary that it convinced me to make my own! I love them, but everything in there is sooo expensive!

DB in Chelsea is a good suggestion, though!

Have you tried the wedding shop at MJ Trimmings? I've never been inside, but I would think it would be budget friendly since MJ Trimmings is all about DIY stuff.

There's a David's Bridal that opened in Chelsea, too. They might have some stuff.

Otherwise, Craig's List, Project Wedding, and other classifieds. Good luck!

There's a bridal salon on the second floor on 6th ave btw 37th and 38th that sells affordable dresses (my friend got hers there), so they might have affordable veils! Wish I could remember the name. Otherwise, I would look at Etsy!

I don't think Gallery Bar is technically a club, but there's a lot of dancing and it's fun, Happy Ending is really cool because it's totally hidden away on the LES and literally has the facade of being a massage parlor complete with a dirty old awning and stacks of towels in the lobby. Everyone's buzzing about circus but I've never been and of course there's Marquee which I'm sure everyone's heard of or been to.
