I have hosted many showers and also have 'only' helped plan games snack and favors. Planning games that are fun and buying all the prizes and doing favors is a big help and should be appreciated.

That is what I did for my shower last weekend- well similar- I bought a cute shower towel (on sale at Macys), body wash and a loofah (also on sale at Body Shop) and wrote a thank you that said I hope your next shower is full of as much sweetness as mine was today. (the body wash was a fruity sweet scent). They seemed to really like it and total for each was under $20

Along with the body wash, I read on the boards a while back someone who bought the hostesses monogrammed umbrellas and wrote a note that said, "I hope your next shower is as wonderful as mine. Thanks!"

If you don't just want to give the umbrella you can also throw in the body wash because the little note would go with both gifts.

I got my girls robes (on sale) from Pottery Barn with their initials embroidered. I have one out of state bridesmaid that will not be at the shower; however, she contributed financially so I got her a robe too. My mom is doing all of the food, so I got her a gift certificate to have her hair and make-up done for my wedding.

i got my girls nice body wash & "for your next shower" thank you note and our moms & aunt (who hosted) potted orchids to give the day of, then sent thankyou cards to all for their shower gift & help. i know the moms & aunt appreciated & were very surprised at the gift. I dont know if the BMs appreciated theirs, tho, and weirdly enough my MOH also got gifts for all the BMs for helping & gave them out right after i did (ps, i dont think this is typical). the stress/ extra effort of getting all the gifts may not have been worth it but im still glad i got them something. One bm lives cross country but helped w the invites so im giving her gift to her w/ her attendent gift at the RD.

I don't think it is a rule that you need to get the hostess a gift. You don't give a gift to someone who throws you a birthday party, do you? No, the party is thrown in your honor, but there is no reason not to be grateful, so when people are thankful, they send a very nice thank you note, which is all that is needed in this situation. Of course, if anyone else helped with the planning, they need a note too.

I think it's customary to get the folks who hosted or contributed to your shower a nice thank you and gift. I did mine economically for my shower this Saturday.

I got my ladies (and mom!) each an assortment of teas, and an additional little gift, and put it in a nice gift bag with a card I made.

Costs (for three attendants and my mom:
Teas - 4x$5.99 = $25.40 (with tax)
Scented candles - 2x$7.99 = $16.94
Box of notecards/envelopes = 2x$7.99 = $16.94
Gift bags and tissue paper = $7.42
Ribbon from Walmart = $2.40
Graphic for cards + card materials = $10.00

Total each = Under $20 for hosting a great shower for me!

HTH!

No. The gift in this circumstance is a thank you for helping with the shower, so if she isn't helping or contributing financially she doesn't need a gift.

I hadn't even thought about this for my own showers (haven't happened yet) but I've been a bridesmaid several times and never gotten a gift from the bride. I think because sometimes it's a surprise, and I don't really think it's necessary, but maybe I'm way wrong? So just speaking from experience, I've never gotten one or expected one for that matter. I think the thank you note covers this, which I haven't always gotten either...

So I have a bit of an interesting situation that I needed some help with:

My cousin is hosting my shower and doing the majority of the cooking and planning. 2 of my BMs are flying in for my shower and between the 4 BMs that are attending, the only things they are doing for the shower is buying the cupcakes, putting together activities/games and making the favors.

I am planning on getting flowers delivered to my cousin's house the day before the shower and I have another thank you gift to give her for everything shes doing. But what do I get my BMs? As I mentioned, they arent doing much but I think some sort of acknowledgement/gift is appropriate. Does anyone have any suggestions?
