omg, thanks for the advice guys! i totally didn't think about there being websites out there for bulk candy! and you guys have some good advice about the chocolate melting, which i also didn't think about, until it hit like 90+ degrees here in los angeles this weekend and the raisins in the container i had bought started to stick a little to the inside of it =O. i may have to see if there's a cool place at the reception site to stick the favors, or i may have to rethink the raisin idea..

mmmm- now i want some chocolate raisins. What a cute idea! And don't worry if someone isn't a fan of raisins- you'll never be able to please everyone.

You could also do chocolate covered espresso beans too.

[hijack] Wow, Bridediy... I don't think I could ever do that experiment - they'd be gone after a week in my house!

I think choc raisins would look fine but as one of the other posters mentioned some may like some may not.

Other chocolate options would be: braches chocolate stars (tasty, plain chocolate and they look pretty), malted milk balls, nonpariels, minature chocolate covered pretzels,

The only thing I would say is avoid anything with nuts in it since a lot of people tend to have nut allergies.

two sites I used to get lots of candy cheep for my candy buffet (70 pounds total) were:

www.groovycandies.com

and

www.metrocandy.com

Both had great services, fast delivery and the candies tasted great even after I stored them for 3 months leading up to the wedding

I think that's very cute! I had the same dilemma and I needed approximately 95 pounds of candy and the jelly bellies/m&ms was going to cost us a fortune (with 300 favors). So we went with flower shaped sweet tarts ("cherry blossoms") even though they weren't our colors, it still followed our theme.

Just a thought though, how many of your guests like raisins?

I don't think it's ugly at all, and I personally would love chocolate covered raisins, but as... hmm, was it Mrs. Radish?... wrote a long while back (in a vegan cookie post), raisins are a very divisive food - people either love or hate them, it seems. You might be able to find some inexpensive plain chocolate candies at Costco or someplace like that.

hi everyone, i saw a really cute picture of some favors on the knot, where they used a clear 2x2x2 favor box filled with green jelly bellys and wrapped it with ribbon. i jumped the gun and bought all the clear favor boxes, thinking i would do light blue m&m's or blue jelly bellys, only to discover that it would cost over 300$ on candy alone for probably 150 boxes! i don't have the heart to spend that much money on such a small amount of candy, and my wedding colors are blue and chocolate brown, so i was wondering if you thought it was ugly to use chocolate covered raisins as a substitute? i would get a blue satin ribbon instead. thanks for your opinions!
