JCM9608 - they were very nice, but even with negotiation, that sort of fee is almost more than our cake budget! We ended up going with a baker in the north bay. No delivery fee, great prices and is willing to work with us on the style. She's been really responsive so far - we couldn't be more pleased!

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the folks at Jen's were always prompt and professional. They were upfront about the delivery fee, so we didn't drag ourselves down to San Jose only to find out it was going to be too expensive. Whew! If anyone is getting married in the city or the peninsula, check it out.

Our runner-up was the Cakemaker (located in the city). He's got a definite style and is good with both fondant and white chocolate designs. Best part is that the cake is very delicious!

Yikes, $250, eh?! I know their kitchen is located in Los Gatos. They do tastings out of their home in San Jose.

We also have a September wedding and we are having 5 tiers; the event will be in San Francisco and IIRC they charged $100 for delivery and set up. They were nice to not charge me for rental of the cake stand that I wanted (the ornate gold one). Apparently, I am one of very, very few people who request the gold one. :D

I wonder if you could negotiate w/ that at all..

to piggyback on JCM9608's recommendation, I contacted the people at Jen's Cakes for my September wedding. The prices seemed good until we got to the delivery fee - $250 to the north bay. I know gas prices are high, but sheesh!

To be fair, Jen's Cakes is located on the peninsula, so the north bay is a haul. Chances are good that the fee to deliver to the city would be lower, but not sure how much. The person I was dealing with responded promptly to emails and was always polite and helpful.

My recommendation for any location in the Bay Area still stands with Jen's Cakes (www.jenscakes.com). Reasonably priced, terrific-tasting, awesome people and great designs!

My sister is doing our cake...even if she wasn't related, I'd still rave about her cakes day and night. I think she starts at $5/slice...she's based out of Menlo Park but she'll deliver around the Bay Area.

I'm checking out Sugar Bowl Bakery. They are about $4-7 a slice, the most affordable I've seen and they offer lots of very delicious flavors to choose from.

My venue is including our wedding cake through Have Your Cake. My baker's name is Marilyn from Have Your Cake located in San Bruno. AND her cakes are good! You should check out her website:

I don't have a specific bakery recommendation. However, if you only care about how it looks, and not how it tastes, why not buy a "fake" cake (i.e. styrofoam inside) that's gorgeously decorated. Then have a cheap (but yummy) sheetcake in the back. Heck, you can get the sheetcake from Costco (and they're pretty good, and cheap).

Try the Cakemaker. The cakes are beautiful and also very tasty. Depending on how much cake you need, he also does sheet cakes for the kitchen much cheaper. Good luck!
