My ring bearer will be four but he is pretty mature and my cousin has been bribing him with gummy treats to get him to practice carrying a pillow around the house. I don't feel like finding some cheap fake rings. So I'll probably give the "pillow" to my cousin before the ceremony.

My fiance remembers when his little brother, age five at the time, was given fake rings as a ring bearer. Apparently he was so upset upon finding out that he was scowling and red-faced for the rest of the day (and his mother thinks he's still traumatized by it). I think if your ring bearer is old enough to figure out there's a bait-and-switch going on, he's old enough to carry the real thing :) Your idea about having his mom tie them on sounds fine. Our ring bearer's dad, all of his uncles, and two of his cousins are in the wedding party, so somebody will always have an eye on him!

At my brother's wedding, my 7 year old nephew carried fake rings. I thought that was pretty lame because he is one of the most mature kids I have ever met.

However, my (now 8 year old) nephew is going to be the junior best man in my wedding, so the ring bearers will be 2 1/2 and less than 1... They are going to be pulled in a wagon. Even so, I still will probably give them the rings. Perhaps I'll see how the rehearsal goes, but I am pretty confident about both of them. Besides, they are going to be in a wagon which will be like a big thing to catch the ring if necessary.

Aww, that's adorable. We've toyed with the idea. Our ring bearer is my nephew who will be 2 and a half. Not really the responsible age yet. But he will be walking with the flower girl, my 5 year old niece. I've seen so many cheap rings out there, seriously we could get 2 for like 10 bucks. But I also feel like that's no fun. And as long as the rings are attached securely to whatever the little man is carrying, it should go alright. I will definitely have someone give it to him right before he starts to walk and then he'll only go up the aisle. The only issue is getting him to go to the best man and not his mommy for the "exchange".

we had our ring bearer take our real rings down the aisle. We gave him the "pillow" moments before walking down the aisle. And he handed the rings to the best man as part of the ceremony. It was really quite cute. Oh and we didn't use a pillow- we used a hand crocheted cupcake. So Sweet!

I think it would probably depend on the age and behavior of the kid if he can be trusted with the symbols of your never-ending love or not.

Although, if you decide that he can't, what's the point of fake rings? I've heard of people doing it too, but there doesn't seem to be much point from where I stand, except for maybe pictures, in which case a ring proxy might make sense. I'd just let escort the flower girls or something if you're not going to have him actually carry the rings.

For those of you having a ring bearer, are you letting the kid carry your real wedding bands? I heard that some people tie fake rings on the pillow and give the real ones to the best man or MOH. My ring bearer is my cousin's son. I thought about giving her the rings right before the ceremony so she can tie them to the pillow (or in my case, a silk, fabric flower). What do you think?
