One thing.. how do I know who it's from unless I open it first? Although it'd be pretty funny to bring opened boxes to the shower.. Maybe I can wrap them back up!

Brilliant, prettykatie! I actually wouldn't have thought of that, but I would guess that shower guests will send their shower gifts first, wedding gifts later. Actually where I come from guests usually bring the shower gifts to the shower, since the point is to open them there - or have them sent to the address where the shower will be held (to the bride in care of the hostess) rather than directly to the bride. Only wedding gifts are sent directly to the bride, since you know they're not going to open presents at the wedding anyway.

Alternatively, you could just call the guests in question and ask them if the package is meant to be a wedding present, or if you should bring it along to the shower. Another clue might be in the card - wedding presents are generally addressed to both the bride and groom, from both guests (if they come as a couple) while anything addressed just to you, or from just one of the women and not including her spouse/SO is probably a shower gift.

You should open your presents before the wedding so you can start writing your thank you notes! I would bring any presents from shower guests with me to the shower to open there.

Good point. I'm just afraid someone will be sad that I didn't bring her gift with me to the shower.

I heard that the wedding gifts shouldn't be opened until after the wedding.. so I can't really see whether there are cards attached or anything.

Another indicator might be how heavy the gifts are? Not sure..

Hmm, I'm not sure, Did the gifts have cards or some sort of message attached?

I would open the gifts that have been delivered to your house. I would imagine if a guest wanted you to open the gift at the shower they would bring it to the shower.

Hi ladies,

How do you figure out whether a gift is for the shower or the wedding? Both the shower gifts and wedding gifts are being delivered to my house. I have unopened gifts, and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to bring them to the shower (which is being held at my FMIL's). Also, my mom wants to bring a gift for the shower.. do we just bring the gift with us? Any advice?
