Jennie, are you being sarcastic? They already do this, on every airline. If you weigh over a certain poundage, you must buy another seat. The airlines state this clearly in their policies. These policies have caused quite the controversy.

Pretty soon, the airlines may start charging us based on our weight. They do this for cargo and the pricing works well. I can't imagine getting up on a scale upon check-in but that would sure motivate me to lose a few pounds .

I'm just waiting for someone to try to charge me to use the lavatory. Seriously, it's gonna get down to paying for your seat only and everything else is extra.

These surcharges are getting out of control! Pretty much all the airlines are in agony as the cost of fuel skyrockets... if they raise the cost of tickets they'll lose business, so they're adding surcharges and taking away food/drinks/services.

Wow, that's nuts! I just flew on AA and noticed that they charged for a second checked bag, which seemed outrageous enough as is. I predict they are going to have a lot of angry customers that try to bring slightly too big suitcases on as carry ons, only to have them taken away at boarding. I'll avoid AA just to spare myself that drama.

This is madness. Ok, charging for a second bag isn't fun, but I can accept that. Charging for THE FIRST bag? Just add it into the price of my ticket and don't tell me, because now I'm less apt to fly you, stupid petty AA!

Thanks for posting that. It also doesn't count if you booked your flights already. We're going internationally and booked our trip in March. Double whew!

Make sure you factor this into your honeymoon plans if they're after June 15!

There are some caveats though (international flights don't apply, nor do first and business class travelers), so be sure to read the fine print.
