We're getting married at SoundWaters at Cove Island Park, Stamford. It's definitely more of a DIY sort of thing since they normally don't host weddings, but do host other kinds of events. It's a nice big old Federalist style house near the water. Small venue though-- can only host 60.

How about the Eolia Mansion at Harkness Park? It's gorgeous, and right on the beach. There are gardens around the mansion itself, and then easy access to the sandy beach. I believe it's ~$4500 just to rent the facility...you can find more info here: http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2716&q=325196&depNav_GID=1650

This may not be too helpful of a post, but I'll try! First off, I think I heard that this kind of thing is easier to do in R.I., but I'm not sure where or why I heard that :o) Secondly, the only beach that comes to mind for me is Rocky Neck, which I think is part of a state park. It has a nice long beach (calm though and shalllow, some kind of sound I think) but also grassy lawns and a historic building (very beautiful). Unfortunately, I don't know any of the specifics regarding rentals, etc. Ooorrr Bluff Point could be an option, I think there is variety there too in that there are buildings AND grass AND beach. I personally am getting married at Avery Point (at the Branford House, a historic mansion on the grounds of one of Uconn's branches), but it is all lawn, not sand, directly on the water (and they book way ahead!). All of these places are in Eastern Connecticut. I can get more information for you, if you're interested! Good luck and happy engagement!

Hello!

I am getting married next summer 8/29/08. My ideal wedding would be just like the final scene in 27 Dresses, on the beach in Connecticut, both ceremony and reception. I already have the amazing caterer but I am having trouble finding a beach site that allows outside catering. I would also like a place with clean bathrooms so I don't have to rent (ew) porta-potties. I have started to look into rentals of homes, with private beach areas, but that has been tough. I would also be willing to go to Rhode Island. Anyone have any suggestions?
