I looked at a few barns when I was looking for a venue.

I have chosen the Pruyn House's Buhrmaster Barn (to be married 9/26/09).

I also looked at the Wemp Barn, which is privately owned. The owner lets you use it for a wedding for FREE. It's located in Feura Bush, NY. The only downside is that you have to bring in/rent restroom facilities.

A caterer recently told me that the Shaker Heritage Society's Barn (Colonie, NY) has recently been renovated and is now available for weddings. http://www.shakerheritage.org/

I love barn weddings! Good luck!

Check out the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck. It is a very historic inn - I think it's the oldest one in NY? - and they have beautiful stables.

How perfect that I just came across this local WeddingBee board today! I was doing way too much research on venues today and came across the Bacon Hill Inn in Schylerville. According to their website, their currently renovating their 1860's barn (3,000 sq ft) for weddings and such. I don't know when your wedding is or when their renovations will be done, but it's worth checking out... http://www.baconhillinn.com/events.html

Also, I know it's not a barn, but Birch Hill in Schodack has a large pavillion (barn-esque) and a pond... http://www.birchhillcatering.com/weddings.htm

I hope this helps. I understand what it's like to have something specific in mind and the daunting task of finding "that place" =) Good luck!

I am not sure what your budget is but for a low cost barn, Indian Ladder Farms has a cheap rental that includes a tent (although it is not a very formal tent ie: yellow and blue strips). The rentals are limited from may - august but the apple trees bloom in may and the rental includes the use of the whole farm including the petting zoo for any children.

Hope that helps.

MsSeaGlass...

I am actually getting married on the property of an Historic mansion in Upstate NY (Latham 12110) to be exact, and our reception is going to be in the Barn on premise (seats 160 comfortably). It is beautiful there even though there is no water nearby. There is a large garden that is maintained by the Fort Orange Garden Club....The barn is available from June through October. It is $12/person for the space but they have ample parking, modern restrooms, chairs and many long tables.

www.colonie.org/pruyn

Good Luck!

Hi MsSeaGlass! My friend had her wedding at 'The Inn at Mountain View Farm' last June and it was gorgeous. I know that you were looking for venues in upstate NY - but I had to share this place with you. The ceremony was in this beautiful field overlooking the mountains....the sky turned gorgeous at sunset. And then the reception was in the actual barn! There were two rooms in the barn, one for the food portion, and a whole other section for the coctail hour, and then dancing afterward! If you want some real pics rather than the ones from the website below, let me know... good luck!

Hello all,

I'm looking for a beautiful barn to hold my reception. I'm live in the Southwest so could really use any upstate NY suggestions you guys can offer. I'd love to have the ceremony on the land outside the barn--hopefully on a river/lake/pond? Suggestions?
