Thanks so much for this advice - especially from Janna19. I ended up booking the Garrison for October. I think this is an example of bringing up issues to the vendors and asking for explanations - and then going with your gut! I'm working with Michael, he is terrific, and he sent me such a great e-mail when I expressed worry about this. I definitely think bad reviews warrant second thoughts, but it is also about going with your instincts about what people to trust and not trust! Also there is a contract and my fiance is an attorney! Woohoo! Just kidding...but again, thanks beehive, all this advice made me feel more confident.

Mamisita - The Garrison has a place for the ceremony that is covered with a floor right next to where the non-rain ceremony location is. You are still able to enjoy the views and be somewhat outside, but it is waterproof. There are also plastic sides if you need to put them down if the rain is bad. I was very concerend about the whole rain scenario so I made sure the rain scenario was a good one. Unfortunately I didn't plan for the 97 degree in early June scenario!!

Jennifer is also great - she helped us plan our rehearsal dinner (at a sister location) and I believe is also working with the garrison now. She is a sweetheart and really worked to help create a great night.

Tea - I've heard plausible excuses about the tripadvisor reviews. I wouldn't worry about them.

Has anyone experienced the Garrison in the rain? I am getting married in early May 2009 and am worried about outdoor ceremony sites because of rain issues.

Does anyone know if the Garrison has a site fee? I guess I should make an appointment to speak to someone there. Janna19 speaks highly of Todd. I'll ask for him, but if he's not available, does anyone suggest anybody else?

Thanks!

I just got married at the Garrison and I LOVED it!! The bad reviews were posisbly warranted as they got rid of their entire event staff this past winter. The new staff is superb. I saw the bad reviews AFTER I booked the wedding and after the new staff came on board. I was pretty concerned, but they explained all of the changes they were making.

Everything was fantastic. The service was excellent, the food was wonderful and the whole day just went so smoothly. I honestly couldn't be happier. The views at this place are spectacular and the pictures from the ceremony outsider are so pretty. If you are looking, ask for Todd. he lives to make sure you are happy!!

email me if you want to talk more.

There was a poster in the other thread that was getting married at The Garrison in June... hopefully she will come back on the boards after her honeymoon and give a vendor review for you!

I thought the Garrison was absolutely beautiful but I ended up going with the Grandview in Poughkeepsie since it is much closer to my family! (So here's another vote for the Grandview!! - I have yet to see one bad review of them) I haven't really seen any reviews of the Garrison either way - have you found many positive reviews too?? Sometimes if the positive reviews outweigh the bad reviews, then it was just a couple of people who had a bad experience and not typical.

No matter where you go, there's going to be someone that doesn't like some aspect of something. If they all have the same complaint about the same thing, that may cause me to worry. I just checked trip advisor, and wow that would make me think twice about booking the wedding there. I would actually call The Garrison, mention that they've been given bad reviews on various websites, and ask for references. If they cant give you any, then obviously they dont have a good reputation.

If you're looking to get married in the Hudson Valley have you thought of checking out The Grandview in Poughkeepsie, or The Belvedere Mansion in Staatsburg? Both have gorgeous views, incredible food, and their staff pays great attention to service and detail!!

I think I just found a great venue, but then I go to trip advisor and find 4 horrendous reviews of The Garrison, in Garrison, NY. Have any of you been to weddings there...what would you suggest to do after reading bad reviews of your site (that you fell in love with!)
