We are also using <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: tahoma; font-size: 13px"> "The Wedding Ceremony Planner" by Reverend Judith Johnson"--- I've found it very helpful thus far. It is great for both religious and nonreligious ceremonies.

Same as a bunch of people here- had a friend marry us and wrote everything ourselves. I mostly used this thread on indiebride, especially the ceremony and vow repositories: http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=4&rid=12131&S=b8bac8106abb10fe2f3372a9d66cb6e7

No sex and the city references here, but we did we used the vows from Corpse Bride

I totally recommend looking at the indiebride message boards! Here are the threads I found most helpful:

Ceremony readings: http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=msg&th=2271&start=0&rid=0&S=1d965205acb43daa5d36cd93f245951c

Vows: http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=msg&th=5850&start=0&rid=0&S=1d965205acb43daa5d36cd93f245951c

http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=msg&th=30331&start=0&rid=0&S=1d965205acb43daa5d36cd93f245951c

http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=721774&rid=5483&S=963e70094a1d627ef6cad63bfb3f2493#msg_721774

And here's a list of generally helpful threads:

http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=850604&rid=0&S=1d965205acb43daa5d36cd93f245951c#msg_850604

ETA:

Also try your local library. Usually there are some wedding books in the nonfiction section and I had a little inspiration looking through them for ceremony ideas.

We had a friend married us and we wrote our ceremony as well. We used "The Wedding Ceremony Planner" by Reverend Judith Johnson" as a guide for all the sections that we need. But since we are both not religious we took out all the religious part.

I wrote our ceremony - it was amazing. It was even more special than just writing vows because the entire thing was "ours". I can't even count how many comments we have had - and I can't count how many people in the crowd said they were touched by the ceremony. It meant a lot. I used "How to Have an Elegant Wedding for $5000 (or Less) ..." as an example for a civil ceremony. Also, a judge married us and he had a bunch of past ceremonies he had done that I used as examples. Maybe someone like that can help you. I know there are several "vows" books at Barnes and Noble - and they can be helpful (although I wouldn't buy it, just get an idea at B&N) and I found one ceremony book there, but never saw it again. Anyway -- good luck, it's an amazing experience knowing that you had a part in everything. And SO much more special!!

yeah, just google all the sections you need. We were in the same predicament - no religion, and his dad also got an offician for the day pass, so he'd never done this before either. We used the hands ceremony, mothers rose ceremony, I found the ring exchange in one of those wedding planning books, and all the other stuff you make up. For our vows, we actually read this poem by <font size="1">Dorothy R. Colgan called I Promise. Well, I really don't know if its a poem, because it pretty much is vows....anyway, there is so much you can use, just make sure it fits all under 30 minutes!</font>

Oh, AND, we're using The Wedding Poem from Sex and the City. It's from the second season, episode 7 where Miranda's friend marries her decorator and they ask Carrie to write a poem for them. Carrie gets all emotional and cries while reading it because of Big's inability to commit. No religion in it at all. I can write it out for you if you want.

We are writing our own ceremony because our friend is marrying us and I bought <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold">The Wedding Ceremony Planner by Reverend Judith Johnson. We are both Catholic but decided we wanted a slightly less religious ceremony. This book is great because it has the entire spectrum from non-religious to very religious. I think that Miss Cream Puff used it too. I got it for $16.95 from Barnes and Noble. I recommend it 100%!!!

yeah we created our own ceremony since my friend married us. just do a search online for it. there are so many ideas you can include in your ceremony. it just depends on what you want. my hubby and i kept it real simple since we had an outdoor public ceremony in the park where we were not allowed to have chairs. this was what we did...

Processional, Words of Welcome, Reading, Exchange of Vows and Rings, Pronouncement of Marriage, and Recessional

There are other things you can do....sand ceremony, rose ceremony, candle ceremony....the gingerbreads are doing a ring warming ceremony....

also, there are a lot of different things the officiant can say too when you're exchanging rings.....my officiant just did the traditional....repeat after me thing. "in sickness and in health...etc" however, after our reading, he talked for a few minutes about his relationship with me and his thoughts on marriage...it was very personal...and i loved it.....i didn't know he was going to say that....i just gave him the order of what I wanted for the ceremony and he ran with it. i didn't want to know exactly what he was going to say because i wanted to experience for the first time myself....

We are planning on having a friend of ours conduct our ceremony. Is anyone writing their own ceremony? We are not religious. Any good resources out there for interesting readings or what to include?
