I very rarely drink, but I LOVE a good sangria. BF doesn't drink all that often either.

I've only been drunk once, to see what it was like, and I've never had a hangover.

When we're out with his mom and sister, they will have a drink, and he will maybe have one, but since I don't drink often enough to know what's what, and I don't care to spend 8 dollars on something I won't like, I stick to water. It can be awkward when his mom and sister are telling me to not be a party-pooper... except I'm not. Sheesh.

I don't get drunk often, but I love wine. All I drink (alcoholic beverage wise) is wine. FI likes wone, but also beer. Neither of us ever drink to just get sloshed, but we enjoy our drinks.

I'm actually having a glass of wine as I write this.

I know lots of people have already commented but I thought I'd chime in.

I don't drink ever. I made the decision that I wouldn't along time ago. My mom spiraled downward after my parents' divorce. She was in a bad relationship, having a hard time as a single mom, lost her job, our house and was soon drinking every day, all day, and couldn't get back into control. It was devastating for my family. She has been completely sober for 6-7 years now and so our relationship has improved. My aunt (her sister), my grandma, and great grandparents on that side have at one point had issues with alcohol. I'm sure its a combo of environment and a predisposition to addiction or difficulty adapting to stress, but I don't want to even have that temptation. I have also never seen the point.

My fiance does drink on rare social occasions. He's just never seen the point to drink really either.

Some people give me a hard time, especially since I'm at a "party school", but whatever. I don't care. This is one thing that peer pressure or opinion or society has NO influence over me.

I didn't drink at all for several years, but my FI likes a beer once every couple of months. I will have a half glass of wine with him about half the time.

I also agree that people look at you funny if you don't drink, and it can get really awkward at work functions. I am still treated like a pariah because I absolutely won't drink in a public place and I subconsciously count how many drinks the people around me have had. I will start getting upset if anyone has more than three, and FI has just learned to make up an excuse and get us out of there. It is really nice to see that there are so many other people who don't drink. It seems like such a social norm these days.

@corgi, I am pretty much just like you. An occasional beer, glass of wine, or (my fav) margarita. I may get "tipsy" but never drunk.

Mr.Rain chooses not to drink. Partly because he doesn't like most alcohol and partly because he just doesn't see the point.

@jilleanleigh- i think you hit the nail on the head... but i didn't articulate it very well. often when new people find out he doesnt drink they assume that he's 1) a wet blanket or 2) bored. Now... if we're at a place where there is nothing but beer pong happening he is bored (and me too)... but drinking is not necessary to have fun!

We both drank a lot in college but don't drink as often now that we've graduated and are all grown up

I do enjoy the occassional martini or two or beer or wine with my dinner and/or in the evenings to relax. I like the taste of it. I don't like the fuzziness and every very once in a blue moon i may have one too many, but I haven't over-indulged for like months....

Ugh. I don't drink because I'm not 21 and because I'm typically the designated driver. Even if SO has one, I take the keys. Not to be a control freak or anything, but because I want him to have fun and not worry about whether those 1-3 drinks are enough to make him not okay to drive. I hate when I tell people that I'll have water or soda and they try to make me a cocktail. Not even telling them I'm the designated driver stops them from pestering me. :( It really bugs me.

FI will usually have a beer after work each day and drinks socially on the weekends. I used to drink the same amount as he did, but had to stop drinking completely after being diagnosed with a liver disease 3 years ago.

It's not awkward for me around our friends who know my situation and understand, but when I'm around other people they do one of three things because they don't know my situation:

1. They try to get me to drink and think I'm just being a party pooper.

2. They think that because I'm not drinking that automatically means I'm not having fun.

3. They assume that I'm pregnant. I've had waiters look down at my non-existent baby bump, smile, and pat my shoulder when I order water when the rest of the table orders beer.

I have just as much fun not drinking as I did when I drank, plus I don't wake up the next morning with a hangover. I'm happy being a life-long DD.

Durring our roaring early 20's, we drank ALOT. Also that was pre-baby years, so we had the time and money! Latley though we haven't been drinking. We don't get out much, and don't like drinking around our kids, so we just kind of stopped for awhile! We're not having alcohol at our wedding not because we don't want to drink, but want to avoid the drunken drama! We don't want people getting into fights, tipping stuff over, or driving drunk home. That said, it's not like we won't ever drink again, we just don't NEED to right now!
