Here is what I ended up using: Wild birdseed that I purchased at Walmart  Knox gelatin you can get a large box of this, I think it contains 24 packs of gelatin water lollipop sticks  I purchased the silicone heart molds from targets baking section and another silicone muffin pan in the shape of hearts, so I had a total of 18 hearts Place 1/2 cup of cold water in large bowl, sprinkle 2 packs of gelatin over the top. Boil 1 1/2 cups of water and pour over the mixture, stir well. Add 4-5 cups of seed, mix well, you want there to be some liquid in the bottom of bowl. Spray heart molds with cooking spray and spoon mixture in. Make sure you use a spoon that allows you to get some liquid in each mold,. Tap down the birdseed evenly, I cut up lollipop sticks to about 2 inches in length and placed those in the molds for the holes. Place in fridge overnight. Once they are hard in fridge you can remove the molds, this might take some practice, remove the sticks, make sure your holegoes all the way through, place back in fridge for another few hrs. Remove from fridge again and let set so that they can dry out. I left them out for a couple of days before I strung the twine through the holes. It sounds complicated, but it really isn't, just getting them out of the molds was the hardest for me. Lets just say the birds and squirels in my yard love me now! If you are using them for wedding favors, I was afraid that they would crumble, so I wrapped mine in a bit of tulle (ughhh I know) and tied with a bit of ribbon with the following tag: Thank you for sharing in our day The Lovebirds  (all natural birdseed and ingredients)

A bunch of people were trying to figure out how to make these in a post in the favor board. Someone found a recipe using peanut butter, but worried it would be too messy. Another recipe included an egg white & baking the seeds. I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to make, but you need to find the right recipe to make sure its not sticky or easily breakable! If you find a great recipe (or have found one b/c this post is older..) let us know! I'd love to make this with my Sunday School class!
