I would say do not use Mona Richie. This is my experience with them. First off, let me say they appeared to be fair to us and were ok to deal with but they caused my wife and I some headaches and were not a company I would recommend.

Lets start with the simple men. We went in around the end of March for some vests and ties for the groomsmen to match the dresses the ladies got. We went in, told them they would need to be rushed because the wedding was in june. I was assured they would be in early enough, that we could get them early to mid may. That was acceptable to me, as long as mid may was the latest. We ended up getting them in late may (2 weeks before the wedding). No biggie but did cause some worry to the wife... for me, no problem.

They were expensive, but did look great. I did come across the same tie (color and material matched) for a lot less. But that is fine...

On the day of the wedding, the best man's button popped off the vest after he put it on. I was not impressed with the quality at all. All the buttons were flimsy. For the price and time it took to get them... I had vests come with the suits they got elsewhere (non matching) and the vests were much higher quality and cheaper.

The bridesmaids dresses were nice, looked great. But some of the staps ended up breaking. They are going to get some money back, but on the day it became a headache.

Overall, I found them pleasent to deal with but the price and quality for their stuff was not good at all. They charge high prices and you get low quality it appeared to me.

In terms of Mona Richie... ive heard nothing but great things about them!!! My friend just got her dress from them and she did a LOT of alterations and they cap the alterations cost at $100.00 no matter what!

Venue - I booked my May 2011 venue in December 2009. Dated were already starting to book up...

Where are you looking in terms of Venues?/

I'm not sure in terms of bridal gowns, but they were awesome to deal with when getting our BM dresses. I would highly recommend them.

As for the venue, I'd start looking asap. I know of a lot of people getting engaged now that are wanting fall 2011 and it's already booked up for popular halls in the GTA, which is freaking me out, but anyway, if you're picky about the venue, definitely get on that! Then you can start planning everything else.

Two of my friends got their wedding dresses from Mona Ritchie. One has already said her "I do's" and she said that they did a great job on the alterations she wanted done. My other friend just purchased her dress a month ago from there and she said that from all of the boutiques she had visited Mona Ritchie had given her the best price with regards to pricing for alterations.

Also, when booking your hall like the other ladies have said it's depending on where and which hall you want. Best thing is about a year and a bit in advance.

If you have a big budget, Graydon Hall in North York (by Fairview Mall area) is gorgeous! With May 2011 you do have a lot of time, but venue is the first thing you need to set. Otherwise, how are you going to book your vendors (they may not be available on your date).

I posted my dress shopping experience on my blog. http://briderella.blogspot.com

Sorry, no feed back on Mona Richie but I wanted to chime in regarding venues. We were engaged on Valentine's day and found out some venues were already booked for our June 2010 wedding. You have plenty of time but if there's a venue you have your heart set on, it might be a good idea to get in there early. Plus you'd get the 2009 or 2010 rates for your 2011 wedding!

I've never been to Mona Ritche Bridal so I can't help there...

In regards to booking a venue I'd say at least a year in advance, especially in the GTA. I have friends who recently got engaged and they were looking for a venue for next September. They said the entire summer was all booked up and a couple of dates were left for September.

We booked in April 2009 for our May 2010 wedding.

We booked in May 2009 for our August 2010 wedding. We weren't set on any particular Saturday in August and all the venues we looked at had at least one option available.

The more popular venues did seem to book up really quickly though and in some cases we were told that we should at least make a tentative booking just in case. It's nothing worth panicking about, but if you're set on a particular date and you do happen to find a venue that you adore, it might be worth booking sooner than later.

I think a year to a year and a half is your safest bet for a venue, especially if it's one that is big on bokking weddings. Our date is Sept 2010, and we booked our venue in May 2009!
