If you're wanting to put out bowls of fruit and have some of it cut [and don't plan to eat it] coat the cut side including the cut edges of peal with vaseline. I saw that on one of those shows where they take pictures of food. The Vaseline is supposed to help retain the moisture. I'd think you would also be able to acheive the same look with a coating of corn syrup if you're conserned with people eating the fruit. I've not tried this, but it might be fun to try. Humm I think I have some limes I could try this with....

Yes! A picture to perfectly show my FMIL what I'm looking for! I don't think I'm always very good at explaining what my brain is thinking!

I really like the idea--wanted to do it myself in fact!

I would second the suggestion to try it, esp. if you want to cut the fruit. I have noticed that lime peel turns brown when in water for a long time.

Good luck--I'd love to see pics!

I actually work at weddings so I have seen EVERYTHING!!!! Each time there are fruit in the centerpieces it always looks great! I think you could also mix whole and cut pieces as well. I am having a yellow wedding so I will be putting in lemons myself!!! I just think the fruit adds to the centerpiece...it is much more interesting than and empty bowl!!!

Just a note, we ordered our Gerbers from Sams Club online and I was really happy with them. They were $60 something for 80 stems and the best price I could find. They did send us two different varieties of white gerbers and if I'd been a matchy-matchy kind of person I might have been upset, but it worked out perfectly for us. And the quality of the flowers was wonderful. I was very happy with our choice. Just an idea.

If you have a Costco nearby, they sell large bags of lemons and limes for around $6 a bag, which is much cheaper than 3 little limes for $2 at the grocery store.

You're welcome! Thank you for the compliments! That's where the trial runs came in handy. I bought the vases first (Michaels!) and then bought enough fruit for the biggest vase. I also bought one bunch of flowers so I could go home and play around with them. After figuring out how many each needed, I went back to the store and bought a ton of lemons, limes, and flowers. If you have a Trader Joes where you are- they are a great place to buy flowers! If you are going to use Gerbera daisies, make sure to tie them together (i used a thin piece of wire) so they will stand straight up! Good luck!

kendicles- thank you thank you! How did you know we were thinking of putting gerbera daisies in them? too funny. About how many lemons and limes did each one take?

Kendicles, those are SO adorable! You're totally inspired me to make some for my kitchen table and the next party I throw, which I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of now that the wedding is over and I have extra creative energy and no where to put it anymore! hehe!
