There are a million dresses out there. I would try and find something else. I don't think it's worth the undue stress, especially if you're anything like me and you'll spend a lot of time after comparing the two.

Holy blatant photoshopping!!

I am in the find another dress camp as well. Your friend found it first AND your wedding is before hers which would make it seem like she was copying YOUR dress. I know you can't "own" a style of dress but since your guest lists will potentially overlap I think it's a good idea for you to find another dress. The one that you have posted is gorgeous. Although I have heard that there are bridal salons that won't allow photos, they should give you the designer and style number of the dresses you have tried on/are interested in.

Oh NO! I just posted about how I went to a wedding this weekend and the bride was wearing my dress pretty much and I freaked. I'm so sorry! I'm not close with the girl who "stole my dress" - LOL I know that's stupid but in my mind that's how I refer to it - so that must be tough. I think it's great you're open to looking at other alternatives, though. That one you posted is gorgeous. Keep looking! I'm sure you'll find another one that gives you that feeling.

Lol, unlike many others I would find it super uncool for my friend to wear the same dress as me. I'd be ticked... there are plenty of gowns out there that give off similar vibes... the one you posted is gorgous - it seems you love tulle ballgowns. Try going to www.bestbridalprices.com and scan over all gowns by the different designers.

For example, this Casablanca has a similar look to one you showed: http://www.bestbridalprices.com/casablanca-wedding-dresses-style-1972-p-46648.html?cPath=1_110

bellenga, the dress in the picture is not the one by friend has, it is a possible alternative.. I think I would feel guilty buying the same dress even if i changed the neckline, etc, and I don't want to worry about that on my wedding day! Oh, and to answer someone's question from before, there is some overlap in the guest list and there are two groomsmen in common in the wedding parties.

@bellenga: you CAN have that waistline, with the magic of a little Photoshop (looks like that's what gave it to her, too)! :)

Oh it's gorgeous! I so want that brides' waistline! She looks like royalty in that dress!

I would accessorize it very differently.

One of you could wear a necklace and jewelry. Other could wear a bracelet and no jewelry (I'm a fan of no neck jewelry if wearing a strapless gown). One could wear a veil and the other would wear a different one.

Is there a shade it comes in? One could go for say ivory and the other maybe diamond white or white?

There are a million ways to make a dress your own! There's a magazine (think it's In Style) in which you see celebs show up at events very close together wearing the same dress. And the accessories or the color/shade can make a huge difference and make the same dress look totally different.

thanks for all the advice. as for it being double my original budget, I think I set my dress budget of $700-$900 a bit too low for the NJ/NY area, and I could not find a dress I liked at David's Bridal, so I most likely will go over the budget quite a bit no matter what. We have already managed to save up enough for our wedding itself, so the extra that we save we would go towards furniture etc after we move out, so I can manage to put more towards the dress. We are not the same size (I am a few sizes larger) and my wedding is 6 months before hers, and while she told me it was ok, I decided to pass it up and keep looking. The salon won't allow pictures until I order :( but now i found 2 dresses that i love (no happy tears but they are still georgeous!) and need to choose between them. One i have no pictures allowed from the salon and can't find online, bu here is the other one i am considering:

How much time will there be between your weddings?

I'll be attending a wedding a month before mine and I've had some irrational fears of the bride wearing the same dress as me!

But honestly, most people will not notice. I know the dress is really personal and a huge deal to the bride, but everyone else will be looking at YOU in the dress, not specifically the dress. Half the guests will be men who definitely will not notice the details of the dress. And most of the women probably wont be comparing you to your friend, especially if you have the alterations done to make the dress you own. Have you thought about jewelry or a sash to make your dress different?

Another issue is the price... its double your budget, plus you want to have extra alterations. I'd keep looking a little longer just because of that, but don't worry about having the same dress as your friend.
