I don't know, I guess I just think that the kids who are already disadvantaged by having parents who don't give a crap about them or how they are being raised really don't need so much exposure to these types of indecent behavior on network television. HBO etc are paid extra, and for me the line is there. You can get ABC, CW, etc on the antenna or QAM for free.

For the record, I was raised in an uncensored household, but I was lucky in that my parents took the time to watch things with me and explain and talk about situations and my perceptions of them. My favorite move at age six was Terminator, which had plenty of violence and a pretty graphic sex scene. I didn't have sex until 21, while most of my friends, many of whom were forbidden to watch rated R movies, were having sex by age 14-15.

I think its naive to say that not exposing kids to violence or sex will save them from bad choices. But I also think its naive to say that anything goes and its the parents' job to decide what their kids should and shouldn't watch. Lots of parents just aren't doing their jobs, and we're left with a generation of depraved children having sex and drinking at age 11, committing crimes in middle school. What's so wrong with putting better role models out there?

I agree with mskalinin in that a lot of parents don't get involved with their children and don't take the time to teach them proper values and moniter what they are watching on TV. However, this is the exact reason I don't think that these watchdog groups should try to pull TV episodes and such.

Do you really think that a teen whose parents allow them to watch GG and wouldn't care about a threesome on the air care what else their kids watch? I'm sure these kids have seen much worse on HBO and probably Cinemax, since I'm sure these parents have not taken the time to put a parental block on them.

I started watching GG when it first aired, and a threesome is totally in line with everything else they've been showing. I agree that this show probably is for someone a little older than high school (I was in my last year of college when I started watching), but that doesn't mean it can't be on TV. If parents have a problem with it then they should get involved and not let their kids watch it. It's not the CW's responsiblity to raise kids, it's the parent's. There are certain things that are not allowed to be showed on tv, but anything other than that would be censorship and almost positively a violation of first amendment rights. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it can't be on tv. If you don't like it, don't watch it. If you don't want your kids to watch it, then don't let them. But no need going around and creating a bright line rule about what can be shown on tv or not, IMO.

I think saying its up to parents to decide what they will allow their children to watch is all well and good in a perfect world. But we all know there are plenty of parents out there who are not involved in their children's lives enough to know what they're watching. I agree with D.Marie that it seems wildly inappropriate to have a plot line in a show that is incredibly popular with teens about a threesome.

I am really sick of this rampant sex everywhere. My husband and I were watching football preview stuff this morning and it seemed like every other commercial was for Viagra or Cialis. The kids that have the most trouble growing up are the ones whose parents aren't there to make choices for them. There is no need to expose kids to crap like this. It doesn't advance society.

I think a teenager's level of sexual activity is much more influenced by what their parents teach them rather than by what they see on tv. In my personal experience, my mom was very thorough with my sex ed but put more limits on the violence in movies/shows we were allowed to watch rather than sex. As a result, I wound up not even kissing a boy until I was 17 and didn't have sex until I was 20. My best friend did not get the same education - abstinence only and no racy tv or movies (but violence was ok) - and she started having sex when she was 15. It's definitely up to the parents, not the media to teach values.

I watch Gossip Girl regularly, and it's not like the show has ever tried to hide the fact that it features drugs, sex, alcohol, etc. It honestly doesn't surprise me much that they would have a threesome in it. I agree with the others that the parents need to be the ones to parent the kids - not CW! If the parents feel it's inappropriate they shouldn't let their kids watch it. End of story.

To me, the show is so outrageous and over the top that the upcoming threesome isn't that surprising...

And if I were watching the show with teenagers, we would have had lots of conversations about the fantasy/hyperbole/drama in every single episode, so they'd probably be saying, "yeah, Mom, we get it already, we shouldn't act like Chuck Bass."

I don't think it's a problem for high schoolers to watch it... I mean, it sets really unrealistic standards, but it is about uptown, right??? Geographically realistic. I think it's a good idea for parents to watch it with their kids and make it a learning experience... like, "so, child, you see, people in this world are actually fake and shallow.... but if you have money, nobody cares what you're like... good luck out there, kiddo!"

I don't watch Gossip Girl, but I know when I was MUCH younger than 13 my mom let me watch shows like Melrose Place and 90201 (the originals). I turned out just fine. Didn't have sex til I was 17 (and even then didn't start having it regularly til I was 18). I've never done drugs. Didn't start drinking regularly til college. It's not the responsibility of the TV show or the network to parent other people's children. I'm sort of sick of parents blaming outside forces for "corrupting" their children.

Gossip Girl shows premarital sex regularly. What is so much worse about a threesome? I don't get it.
