my dress has been hanging in the closet (in a breathable cotton zipper bag provided by the shop) since last May. It'll continue to hang out there until August. Still doing good.

Not the lingerie straps of course...the straps sepcifically designed for when you hang things! :) (I think it's time for bed!)

Also, if you have a train, you should roll it with tissue paper in between and let it sit on the bottom of the bag, so the dress isn't bearing the weight of the train.

Good luck!

Most bridal shops will give you your dress in an appropriate bag. My bridal shop gave me my veil in a GARBAGE BAG - so as long as you're not using them, you should be fine... :)

I was told the biggest concern with hanging it is the stress it puts on the shoulders of the dress - so if you do hang it, make sure you properly use the lingerie straps, and a good, heavy duty, padded hanger. As long as do that, you should be fine.

I was told to buy a king sized white sheet and drape it around around the dress I washed it first), then tuck it back in the back, which you can hang or lay.

The sheet helps keep those "house smells" out of the dress i.e: ever made bacon and it smelled like it for 2 days in the house?

Then about a month before the wedding I'll open the bag and let the dress sit open. I want to avoid any accidental mishaps with it being out before then.

I stored mine in a breathable bag in the spare bedroom closet. About once a month (I bought it 19 months before the wedding...heck, I bought it before he even proposed) I'd air it out, check for damage and admire it. I agree that if you can lay it flat, do that. Just make sure it doesn't become a cat bed. :)

since your wedding isn't until june, i wouldn't hang it. my dress which is currently in my apt (awaiting alterations for my oct wedding) is loosely folded up in an acid free box with acid free tissue paper. we put tissue paper between each of the folded layers as well.

I'm picking up my dress in a few hours (yay!) but I don't know the best way to store it- any quick advice? I'll be dropping it off at my parent's house to live but Im not sure what the shop will give it to me in. Wedding isn't until the end of June but I will need alterations at some point too.
