However, your dress does have a lot going on and I think if you go for a lace veil, something with a thinner lace border would be better. Actually, that might help define the veil against the lines of the dress. I had a very similar experience. A part of me is still nervous about the dress not having any lace but I know it won't matter either way when the day comes at all. I agree, I do think some guys (including mine) have a very old fashioned take on what a dress should look like! Keep looking (and don't ask his opinion anymore!) I have a feeling plain will look better. Awhile back before I was engaged, I pointed out a dress I loved (that did not have lace) and FI goes (i'm not kidding, his exact words..) "Shouldn't a wedding dress have lace on it?" Later, he claimed it "wasn't a big deal." So, when I was looking for dresses, I kept ONLY looking at lace ones. None of them looked great on me. OH well! Hopefully he won't say that me at the alter on our wedding day.
