just another suggestion to make your life easier - make the dough beforehand, scoop onto a cookie sheet and freeze them. When they're frozen stick them all in a bag and then bake the day before your wedding. I'm an avid baker and I always find that this technique makes a fresher tasting cookie than one that has been fully baked and then frozen.

Also, do a test beforehand so you know your freezer doesnt make lots of ice crystals and so you know what temp and for how long to bake the cookies from frozen dough.

I love this idea!

As for the answers to your questions...

1) I would think it would be totally fine. =) You might want to have it be more of a constant thing, going through the whole reception (after all, cookies don't go bad in the open, and you can always stock a container with ice and put bottles of milk in it), rather than announcing it at 9:30, because that might lead to a rush of people from the dance floor.

2) I think it would be fine to bake them all yourself! =) And, like babyboo said, you can bake them in advance and they'll taste just fine as long as you store them in an airtight container.

3) You might want to aim high (4 per person, maybe?) just in case. And after all, who doesn't love a few extra cookies to take home at the end?

Just wanted to repeat what Jessie516 said about freezing cookies. Whenever my mom or grandma does holiday baking she makes about 5 batches of goodies and at least doubles each recipe which leaves us with hundreds of cookies. All of their recipes freeze really well for a couple of months as long as you keep them sealed in a container. Also, putting wax paper between them when you freeze helps so they don't stick to each other.

This way you can bake batches of cookies whenever you have some time and you don't have to worry about it the week of :)

I don't know if you took a look at the featured weddings today, but there's a couple who did something very similar to this! I think it's a great idea. You could always get some old fashioned milk bottles and have a beautiful set-up: I have to imagine it'd be similar to a candy buffet!

I think this is a great idea! :) I think you're right in thinking about 2-3 cookies a person. Other people might disagree, but I think you might be able to do the baking yourself. Personally, I love to bake and it actually relaxes me. I'm baking cookies as our dessert for the rehearsal dinner (we're doing my favorite cookies and his favorites). I'm actually looking forward to having that time earlier in the week to relax and bake. I wanted to do them as favors for the wedding, but I couldn't convince my mom and sister that it wouldn't drive me crazy.

A time-saving tip would be to make the cookies ahead of time and freeze them. That way, you can just bake them off right before the wedding, instead of worrying about mixing and shaping. Most cookies freeze pretty well, up to a couple of months, actually. I do this a lot when I want cookies, but know we aren't going to eat the whole batch. Just mix the batter, shape into cookies and place them on a cookie sheet or cutting board--anything so that they're not touching. Put that into the freezer and let the cookies freeze separately. Then, once they're frozen, put them in Ziploc bags. If you put them in the bags first, they'll freeze all together and will be a total pain to separate.

Good luck! :)

My first question is.. are you having alcohol served at your wedding? Personally the thought of mixing alcohol and milk.. makes my tummy turn over bit... that being said, i know that not everyone drinks at weddings... especially kids and those with kids... so it may just work out! But do think about that if you plan on having a drinking crowd!

I would either buy the cookies, or ask a friend or family member to do the baking. I remember how frazzled I was the week of the wedding.. I never could have baked dozens on cookies!! Perhaps if you are very very organized, it wont be a problem for you though.

2-3 cookies per person would be good... Not everyone will eat them, and some will eat more than their share, so it would work out!!

Cute idea, good luck!

I would also suggest making provisions for the lactose intolerant and people who just don't like milk. Other options could be chocolate milk, soy milk (no lactose).

My FI is lactose intolerant and my nephews only drink chocolate milk.

I would also suggest 2-3 kinds and definitely one w/o nuts because a lot of people are allergic to nuts.
