I agree that it looks a bit more Japanese. I love the train and the skirt of the dress but I am not sure how I feel about the bodice and the neckline.

It's very pretty, but the fabric looks more Japanese than Chinese.  Is it a print or embroidered?

I love the color and the back fo the dress!  The print reminds me more of a kimono that a cheongsam or qipao.  I think it looks fabulous on you but I'd like some kind of mandarin collar to make it look more "chinese".  But that's just my opinion.

I loooove it! And I agree, with that shade of red and the slim silhouette I think it still gives the EFFECT of a Chinese dress enough that it should hopefully keep your mom happy. :-)  It's GORGEOUS!!
