I'd say give it a shot, especially if you have relatives over there. My parents live in Thailand and while I was card shopping there I found that a lot of the clients were from overseas i.e. USA, Europe. The price is much cheaper and the quality is pretty awesome some places don't even have design fees.

My brother's wedding invties were like $0.25. Fancy laser cut invites with additional sheets and designed envelopes come down to $2-3.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Much appreciated!

@cheerful -- I bought a few samples from sellers on Etsy. They all do flat printing. When I got them, I was like, "oh." Underimpressed.

Maybe I'm being too picky since a friend of mine says I should obsess over something that most people throw out! lol. But I'd love to have people open the invitation and go "wow!" If Cardsprint photos of their invitations are anything to go by, I'll have a beautiful, totally embossed invitations!

There are other budget options, like etsy, of course, but as long as you have a decent contract and most importantly proofs, why not? You can fix the spelling/formatting as needed and it sounds like a great deal. I think everything should be good, especially since you have your cousin there on the ground to help.

I would also suggest etsy - great customization options for reasonable prices!

I'm planning to order my invitations from a company in Manila, Philippines called Cardsprint (http://www.cardprints.com.ph/shop/pages.php?pageid=1) I still have some relatives in Manila who can check out their store locations (they have 3) and probably check out invitation samples for the quality and to make sure they're legit. They have a number of unique invitations, prices are pretty good (they include the inner envelopes and 1 - 3 inserts) and total customization options!

I've done the research, looked at a ton of other places/online websites and they impressed me by far. shipping via fedex is probably be around $30 but that's not bad considering they'll still be cheaper than other online wedding invitations (the runner up is www.theamericanwedding.com)

Although I can't order samples (to keep overhead low they said they dont have samples lying around to send; i'd have to go to their store which of course i can't do, which is why i'm sending my cousin), I can order samples of the paper they'll use for invitation itself.

I think I've done my research, figured out the logistics, etc.... but is there something I'm missing? Is there something I need to think about as well? Their english is quite good (already exchanged emails with them) so I'm not worried about the language issue. some of the samples they have even show California locations.
