Could you do a charity registry? Or keep your small registry, and spread the word through family/friends/bridal party that you don't expect pressies but cash would be appreciated to go towards your house/dining table/honeymoon fund?

HL,

I know EXACTLY what you mean. My FI and I walked into Macy's and walked right back out. We have everything we need and so we felt bad registering for new stuff. The only thing we did different is register at Bed Bath & Beyond as sort of a home redecoration fund. We are first time home buyers currently in the lending process and found a ton of things for our new home that came from BB&B.

Have you thought about donations to a charity instead of an actual wedding registry?

Good luck. I'm sure everything will work out just fine.

I would make a "wishlist", instead of a traditional registry. My fiance and I are considering making one of these, because we kind of want to insert some variety into our registry, without having to register at twenty different stores.

There are some online registry sites that let you add stuff from several different stores if you'd rather, as well, like My Registry (http://www.myregistry.com/default.aspx) and Alternative Registry (http://www.alternativegiftregistry.org/).

Amazon also has the universal registry option like wishpot. So you could register at Amazon and add what you want from the cheese company, etc and they have bittman's book :)

I would definitly try wishopot.com and a tradition store like budgetbeautiful said. I just started using wishpot and I love it. I'm axious to see how many people actually purchase off of it (shower's not til August).

We have a registry with wishpot.com. You can add things from all over the internet, so you can register for the most cost effective item. We also have a registry at Target for our more traditional and less internet savvy guests. :)

$$$. You can call it your Future Home Fund. Then invest it in a high interst savings account or bond.

Can you find some of the things you want on a site like Amazon? With the marketplace, there may be a wide selection to fit your non-traditional tastes. Not sure if you can do something similar with Google Checkout.

Beyond that, is it likely people would just give you cash? Or are you afraid of receiving like 50 toasters?

My FI and I have lived together for almost two years now and we're very fortunate to have almost everything we could possibly need/want. I've put some odds and ends that we'd like on our registries, but I know it's not going to be enough (only about 30 items right now, which is about the number of people invited my shower...). My problem is that there are some things that we'd really love, but they're not from "traditional" stores that do registries (i.e. The New England Cheesemaking Supply Company) -- or they're so widely available that I'd feel bad putting it on a registry when someone could get it cheaper somewhere else (specifically, Mark Bittman's "How to Cook Everything" cookbook ). We also definitely need a new dining table, but have a very specific idea of what we want, and it will probably have to be custom-made. Between that and the fact that it'll be very expensive, registering for it is not really an option.

So...what to do? We can't take a honeymoon until well after the wedding, and haven't decided for sure where we're going when that happens, so a honeymoon registry is out (plus, I don't really care for them anyway). Also, our apartment is tiny and VERY lacking in storage space. I really don't expect gifts from anyone, it's more than enough for them just to be there, but people are already asking about our registries and I'm feeling stuck. Any ideas??
