Thank you all!! Can I tell you how much I LOVE the hive? Everyone is always so supportive and helpful! Anyway, so we have decided to move our date to 10/16. This actually works out perfectly since that is the date of the Commodore's Ball, which is held somewhere other than the club. This means that everyone will be at the ball, so we have the place completely to ourselves!! And, I am making sure to get something in writing from them confirming our date. Hooray!!!

... girl, I would be TOTALLY more ticked off than you sounded like you were, especially if it were on an important date. If you reserved the date and got confirmation, then you pretty much have a legally binding verbal (or even written) contract. If they couldn't get their act togeher, that's their problem. At the very least, I'd tell them that I expect a steeply discounted rate. But then again, I'm kinda bitchy when it comes to things like this. Not bridezilla, just expecting people to do what they say they're going to.

Do you have pictures of the venue? Or do they have a website? I'd love to see what it looks like!

Thanks All! Luckily, we didn't put a deposit down, so no money lost! Also, I thought about changing the venue, but this one is perfect.

My mom is going to call the coordinator tomorrow and see what our options are (not that I like leaving things like this up to my mom, but she knows this person and they get along pretty well.) There is a chance that the mates could move their party to a different room (i.e. the ugly one that I refused). I'll keep you updated!

Aww I'm sory. But after a little pressure realease, you are sounding very zen about it. I hope it's not just the vodka... or the ice tea talking.

But I would look into talking to someone at the yacht club. Since they bumped you after 6 mo, maybe you can get a deal out of them. They should at least owe you that.

I know you were hoping to get married on your dating anniversary, but maybe you can take this time to reevaluate if there is something else you thought of doing with your wedding, otherwise. Christmas wedding? A summer outdoor ceremony? Taking advantage of a long holiday weekend, by having your reception on Sunday instead?

Good luck.

That's terrible! Did you talk to the person you originally spoke with to find out why they allowed someone else to have the date you had already reserved??

So, FI and I had our date picked out almost from the start, we wanted to get married on 10/9 since that's our dating anniversary. So, in back in May, we had my dad send a letter to his yacht club reserving that date for us. When we spoke to the coordinator, she said that was fine, and they were free. Well, about an hour or so ago, I find out that the First Mates Club (all the member's wives) are having their dinner on that same day. So, even though we had our space reserved for 6 months while they get their s*** together, WE are the ones who have to move our date! So, I stomped my foot and called the first mates nasty names and yelled about how snooty they were and how dare they take OUR date (think 4 year old who isn't getting her way)

Now, I have calmed down a little bit and come to my senses (and had some vodka & iced tea deliciousness :). I can't do anything about it, so I just need to suck it up and move on. What's important is that I am going to spend the rest of my life with FI and since we have already decided to commit ourselves to each other, the date we make it "official" doesn't really matter in the long run. If this is the biggest problem we run into, I'll be okay with it.

Thanks for letting me vent!
