You should go to as many places as you can!

I've been to Bangkok, Koh Samui, Koh Lanta, Phuket / Koh Phi Phi in Thailand. They are all beautful. Just make sure you avoid the monsoon season.

I'd recommend going to Siem Reap in Cambodia and visiting Angkor Wat. It can be a lot of walking / climbing, but there really is no other place like Angkor Wat. 3-4 days there will be plenty.

And you probably know all about the budget airlines in SE Asia. You can fly for like $20 from Thailand to Bali, even (Air Asia, One-Two-Go, etc...)

I've been to Hanoi and some remote communities in Vietnam (for work). Hanoi is a beautiful city with a lot of history and culture. Food is great, too.

My sister went to the Maldives and Malaysia for her honeymoon. She wasn't wowed by Malaysia, but probably because she was spoiled by the Maldives!!

Thailand!! FI and I spent about 10 days there for a vacation, and it was amazing. We were in Bangkok, Phuket, Khao Lak, and Phi Phi. We went during "off" season (mid-June) so crowds weren't a problem at all -- it was peaceful, relaxing, secluded, and beautiful. It was really, really beautiful. We stayed in amazing hotels too -- snorkeled, rented out a longboat and driver for the day and just went exploring around the islands. I loved it and would love to go back. I think it's a pretty perfect honeymoon spot!

I've never been to Vietnam, but I have friends who have visited and they didn't really like it there.

Depends what you're looking for. Depending on how long your honeymoon is, you can visit more than 1 of those countries. I'm biased since I have lived in Thailand before so I would say Thailand. I have heard great things about Vietnam but never been there and definitely will plan to visit there soon. I have only been in KL in Malaysia. It's kinda meh for me. Although thailand is a big tourist country, there are many non-touristy places and the types of services/accommodations/opportunities available are also great since it is a tourist-centered country.

I've traveled some in SEAsia :)

I'd say Malaysia will be the 'classiest' of the three; VN will be the most cultural expeirence, Thailand is super touristy.

If I were you, VN would be last on my list of choices.

I'm an Aussie too!! (Anyone else think we need a board?) I really wanted to go to Vietnam for our honeymoon but bc we're getting married so close to Christmas, flights and accommodation were too expensive. We decided to save our $ for a time of year when we'll get more bang for our buck, and we're off to Byron for a week instead.

I have been to Malaysia before and I love it, I plan to go plenty more times. KL is great and if you want a relaxing resort style holiday Langkawi is a good place for it. I've also spent time in Penang which I liked. I think it's a great option. I haven't been to Thailand (fi went with his ex, one reason I've never been that keen!) but it doesn't appeal in the same way, I think bc I assume it's full of other Aussies. My sister went there on her honeymoon though and they had a great time, I think you just need to choose where you go carefully. Vietnam seemed a bit more off the beaten track to me which is partly why it appealed.

Anyway I think any of these places would be great for you and it might just come down to what good deals you can find and what takes your fancy :)
