Can anyone tell me what the price point of shower gifts should be around? Also do we set up a different registry for the shower and wedding? I'm confused. I don't want people thinking I signed up for $150 blender for my shower gift.

I offered my girls to get dresses in navy, cobalt or gray - 4 of 5 have their dresses and #5 wants to know what color to get! MOH is wearing Royal Blue. So... should #5 get the bright blue, or go uniform with the others and get navy...

SO...

ALL NAVY, except MOH...

Or #5 gets the brighter blue...

R and I both grew up very chubby kids, and became independently health conscious. We lost weight through a combination of vegetarian diets (for ethical and moral reasons), learning about nutrition, eating out only about once or twice a month, limiting processed or pre-made foods and sodium intake, and exercising. My parents are also on a much better track, because my mom's doctor ordered her to learn healthy habits after a knee surgery.

His immediate family, though, has gotten much worse. His parents work way too many hours, don't sleep enough, and eat fast food just about every single day. They both have weight related health issues (back and knee problems) and are well over what is a little extra weight. FMIL wants to change her ways because she's a nurse and sees obese patients. FFIL doesn't see a "monetary gain" to eating right, thinks organic foods are ridiculous, etc.

FSIL & FBIL are in the worst boat, in my opinion. FBIL is the biggest person in our family. I know he used to weight about 315 lbs, but has gained weight steadily throughout the past few years. My guess is that he's about 350-375 now, and is fairly short. FSIL was at a reasonable weight when they started dating for her body type. She was a size 16 or so, and it suited her. Now she's eating horribly right along with him, and doesn't care. She says that because she drinks minimally and doesn't smoke, she's fine.

I know you can't tell family what to do. In fact, this weekend FSIL screamed at FMIL for expressing her concerns about the family's eating habits.

When the conversation comes up, R and I don't point any fingers, but we stick up for our health practices. We talk about the raised energy level and mental functioning that comes with sleeping enough, eating right, and exercising. But it is actually scaring us, especially in the case of FFIL - he was not a big man in his 20s, and is having such a hard time lately. He thinks he is taking fitness into account by walking an extra mile on the treadmill - but he uses that as an excuse for ice cream or pie, and he can barely even walk on the treadmill for that long.

I know you can't judge, and people have to learn for themselves. We wouldn't approach FSIL and FBIL at this point, they're young and stubborn. But would it ever be appropriate to talk to FFIL and FMIL? Is there a way to do this correctly?

At what point is obesity and general health a personal matter versus something that close family has a right to bring up gently?

So ladies....

What types of alcohol are you serving at your wedding?

This is the list I am currently considering plus mixers:

vodka

rum

whiskey

peach schnapps

amaretto (I don't know about this)

beer (a few kinds)

I am also considering having a signature drink that is yet to be decided on.

What are your thoughts on no wine? I am not a wine drinker- If I have wine what is a cost effective choice? Do I need to have both red and white?

Is there something missing that I need to add? HELP!!

I've heard that you can develop allergies as you get older. AND I have seen sign that I have been sneezier, eyes itchier over the past few years. But the past day and a half, man! I'm sitting here at my desk at school while my students take a test and I interrupt them every 5 minutes with my constant sneezing. I feel like my nose is both stuffy and runny at the same time and my eyes feel like sand paper!

Is this an allergy attack? What should I take?

I'm the type of person that says..whatever floats your boat, but this whole thing with open marriages is a bit too out there for me. Would you ever consider it? I sure wouldn't and I definitely would be offended if my FH brought it up. In that case, I wouldn't marry him lol. What are your thoughts?

So because we have so long before our wedding, I don't feel motivated to do the most fun stuff about weddings - dress shopping, bridesmaid announcing, invite making - beyond looking at the 'Bee.

For 'fun' I decided to get the book The Love Dare to do with my FI as some early marriage prep....

It's so boring. We're only on day 6 and we don't feel like we're learning anything or opening our relationship to more talking, blahblahblah. FI is even kind of into it - mostly cause I have marketed it as a 'couple activity' we do together rather than a relationship builder, and he loves 'couple activities'. But it's almost like when we read Harry Potter together, it's more fun doing the cuddling and the out loud reading than it is a relationship tool.

Anyone do the Love Dare when they weren't in a rough patch and enjoy it? Anyone read anything else and have good results?

I'm just curious, because it came up in discussion tonight- does anyone else hate the term, "We're pregnant"? It bothers me because HE'S not pregnant, SHE is. "We're going to have a baby" is perfectly fine, because it's true! I know it's a bit neurotic, but I was just curious if anyone else feels this way.

Last night, we were supposed to have a date night (chinese food and a movie) but FI fell asleep on the couch about 10 minutes into it. I was so bummed. So, being somewhat of a practical joker, I decided to put a temporary tattoo on his forehead. It was a picture of a pink kitten with cross bones under it and said "Bad Kitty".

I know these rub off easily--I even left a bottle of rubbing alcohol on the bathroom counter for him!

Well, FI came home and stormed into the office and seemed uber pissed. Apparently, he was running late this morning and didn't look in the mirror? Yeah, he went to work with the tattoo on his forehead. Our friend (who he works with), said no one told him about the tattoo until after lunch...and that everyone is now calling him "bad kitty".

I know this story is funny, but I actually feel terrible. Who would have guessed that he was gonna skip the bathroom this morning?!?!? He says my jokes are childish and he made me throw out all my temporary tattoos. On normal days, he says he fell in love with me because of my sense of humor--now he hates it. Oh man, I goofed big time. I can't wait for the day that we can laugh this one off.
