- Wedding: September 2010
We just got married this weekend and like another post, I wanted to share our vendors to help other brides in the area giving some info about the vendors that made our day great!!
Ceremony/Reception/Hotel – Sawmill Creek Resort – http://www.sawmillcreek.com/index.asp – It was important to us to get married outside, have the reception at the same location, as well as having the hotel at the same place. This limited us but we ended up with a FANTASTIC location – Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron, OH. The ceremony was outside feet from Lake Erie on a grassy patch with a mini pond and bridge and gazebo. There was sound piped in with by AV tech (the timing of the music was a little off at the end, but no big worries). Guests parked at the hotel and were shuttled down to the lake for the ceremony with complementary shuttles. The ceremony was SO, SO beautiful and they were flexible with our desire for a few unique things we wanted to do. The resort is a lodge theme, which didn’t really fit our theme but worked out fine, as the halls are fairly generic and easy to work with. The staff was very accommodating of all of our needs and wishes. We had a buffet and, in the words of my best friend and matron of honor, “It was a feast!” The food was delicious and they offered the opportunity for us to try it at brunch (complementary!) a few months before the wedding, so we really knew what we were getting. There were a few logistical snafus here and there so make sure you really explain what you want and double check (the music during the cocktail hour was played inside the building but not outside where guests were located and it wasn’t clear where guests would enter, so not many people signed the guest book). The hotel was very nice and it was great that it was connected to the reception hall – no worries for guests! There is an outdoor pool as well as an indoor pool plus a few restaurants and a pub.
Photographer – Catherine McKinley – http://www.catmckinleyphoto – Catherine was beyond a dream! She was professional, prompt, calming, fun, and artistic! Her work is amazing and that’s what originally made the decision for us to work with her, and she has such a great presence and that’s what made the decision to work with her a fantastic one. She was beyond wonderful and worth everything we paid for and more. She was wonderful and I really recommend her. The wedding event coordinator at Sawmill Creek even commented on Catherine’s skill and presence.
Officiant – Susan Pandoli – http://www.susanpandoli.com/ – Susan was beyond wonderful. She was really the only officiant I met with, but after talking with her the first time, I felt comfortable and ready to work with her. My husband and I wanted a unique, secular ceremony and Susan gave us some tools to help make that happen. When we met with her together again and threw at her the hodge-podge of a ceremony we had put together based loosely on some of the resources she gave us, she did’t bat an eye and worked with us to put together all the pieces seamlessly. While we didn’t have her at the rehearsal, she was prepared, calm, and confident in the delivery of the ceremony. She had the perfect balance of seriousness and some fun humor/playfulness to make sure the ceremony wasn’t too boring but also had the appropriate tone. Not once did I feel a lack in confidence and she truly made the ceremony special.
DJ – Big Ear Entertainment, Jason – http://www.bigearohio.com/ – I actually didn’t meet Jason until the day of the wedding (we planned the wedding from NC); we had just spoken over the phone and emailed to go over details. Regardless, he was professional, not cheesy, fun, and flexible to adjust to our needs and schedule. The company was very affordable and gave great service. The online features the provided were easy and convenient – online payments, a place to create notes about the agenda for the reception, as well as a place to choose and request songs for the reception. You can also put songs on the “do not play” list; I will be honest in saying that not all of my “must play” songs were played and there was a “do not play” song played – the cha cha slide…but in Jason’s defense, the dance floor was packed when he played it, so it was a good professional judgement, just not what I asked of him. Other than that, everything was great and I would definitely recommend Big Ear Entertainment.
Photobooth – Flashback Photobooths – http://flashbackphotobooths.com/ – This was by far the best decision EVER! Any photobooth would probably be a great decision, but this was fantastic. The vintage style of the booth is what sold us, with a dramatic red curtain and cozy interior. They make a scrapbook with photos selected by the guests from their strip of 6 photos. The downside is that there isn’t a second copy of the photos printed like some other vendors, but the upside is that they are all available online for free downloads or $3 printed copies. You will get a copy of all the pictures on a CD. They will also make you a custom design that goes down the center of the photostrip with your names and the date of the event. It honestly was the talk of the wedding, and despite it being a little bit of an expense, it is COMPLETELY worth it. Hands down. The assistant was there the whole night to help guests – she did a great job, but it wasn’t the owner of the photobooth and I don’t think she was quite the best. She did her job but could have been a little more interactive or friendly.
Cake – Wildflour Bakery – http://www.wildflourbakery.com/ – This bakery is out of Rocky River and is SO delicious. We decided to go with them for a few reasons. One big reason is the FROSTING! This is nothing like I’ve ever had on a cake before – it was light, sweet, and almost like CoolWhip. It wasn’t greasy or too buttery but refreshing and a perfect compliment to the cake. The second reason we went with them is their customer service – they gave us a whole round cake made of slices of different flavored cakes with 6 or so different fillings/frostings that we could try in order to make a decision. We decided on 4 different flavors of cake and fillings for each of our 4 tiers. They were very accommodating and the cake looked and tasted magnificent!
