    Okay Guys,

We are planning an engagement party for September 18, 2010. Our wedding is over a year away and his parents are elderly and won't be able to make the trip to the beach for the wedding, so we decided to have an engagement party to introduce our family members and friends and hopefully his parents can feel like they have participated in the whole event.

    -GETTING TO THE POINT-

I am having a problem deciding on which drinking glass to use. The first glass, I bought from a restaurant that is in the process of going out of business. I have 109ct of them and I thought they would look nice on our tables as drinking glasses. The second picture is of plastic glasses that snap together at the stem. I bought them from a store called Party City. I'm just confused at which glass to use because I don't even know what type of glass the first one is OR if it would be silly to even use since we will not have champagne. We are going to have alcohol, but we will not be serving champagne. Would it be okay to toast with different types of alcohol? For example, if someone is drinking bourbon, another person is drinking wine someone else may be drinking water or tea etc. When toasting, would it be fine to just say, fill your glasses with something to drink to participate in toasting? Which would you guys use. I like the first one because it's real glass; I dislike the height of the glass. I like the second one because it looks like a glass that would normally be used for toasting. I hate the fact that it's plastic. Please help! Thanks in advance.

i would say use the first one. Real glass beats out plastic every time regardless of shape in my opinion. Good luck, and congratulations!

Absolutely, use the real glass!  The plastic glasses are shaped like champagne glasses, and you're not even having champagne.  And the real glass will be much more elegant.

It's absolutely fine for your guests to toast with whatever they're currently drinking -- in fact, I'll bet a lot of champagne goes to waste during champagne toasts, since it gets poured for every guest regardless of whether they actually want it!

It's a water glass if the stem were alittle higher it would be a bordeux glass.  I would serve out of the glass.

I'd go with the glass, you are lucky to have them! We have to use plastic for our engagement party :( No way we could round up 50 matching glass glasses and not spend a small fortune

I def. like the glass idea better. Do you have a Christmas Tree Shop near you? or even a dollar store or dollar tree. Sometimes they have nice glasses or wine glasses for super cheap and you can ask if they can get a shipment in for you depending on how many you needed. My mom and I did this a couple years ago for my SIL bridal shower. The wine glasses were gorgeous (they had hand painted flowers all over them) and they were pretty good quality. Also, is there a specfic reason you're not having champagne? Otherwise I think it's fine to do a toast with whatever people are drinking. Good luck!
