how big is your wedding? i would say yes, small candy buffet is okay, but I know that we had 5 jars and about 65 people, and by the end of the night, they were cleaned out!
Cute idea. I don't think that it would look silly to have a small candy buffet, if you arranged it nicely. I would not; however, put the buttons, on the same table. You would run the risk of someone thinking they were candy and breaking a tooth trying to eat them.
We are also considering a mini candy bar.
@noritake22: we were going to put a sign next to the buttons, but hmm. Maybe I need to think about this a little more! The thought of someone trying to eat the buttons didn't cross my mind.
@krissycake: We have about 100 adults and 5 kids attending.

For our favors, we actually custom designed 1" buttons for our guests. But instead of leaving them out on the table at each seat, we were going to put them in a small bowl with a sign that said "Buttons! Please take one." so guests could pick their own. There's about 20 different designs.
Once I did a mockup, it looks... dinky. So we were thinking of setting up a small candy buffet next to it so guests could snack on some candy wrapped in our wedding colors while picking out a button. Would it be OK to do a mini candy buffet with only 3 apothecary jars in different shapes? Kind of like this...
Or is it too pathetic to have a small candy buffet?
Maybe I should just have the buttons placed at everyone's seat with a thank you note...
