So I’m onto the decorating of my tables and I need some input on what to do…
I’m getting married on a yacht and our colors are white, navy, champagne gold with maybe a liiiiiittle red here or there only for the nautical effect.
We want it to be classy and elegant nautical not necessarily jokey & 5 year-old boy’s birthday nautical because it is after all, our wedding! haha
So yeah, here’s what one bride did with the tables on our yacht:
I like the runner and all but I think we want something a little more wowing so I was looking at chargers and they are EXPENSIVE for our 125 guest count so I was on dollar tree’s website and found these plates (10.25″ rounds)
I think it would be cute but do you think chargers would be better?
The chargers I’ve seen are about $2-$3 each so its EXPENSIVE and I’m not sure what color to do because the chairs are silver but our accents are champagne gold…
would silver chairs and gold chargers clash?
should I do just silver even tho its not really our colors?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
oh also here are our proposed message in a bottle centerpieces:
the bottle will be clear and the round placemat color will be a different color (possibly champagne or silver) when we decide the other colors of the table.
Please let me know what you think girls!

Use the plate! It will look great.

I think the plates are kind of busy, and it’ll be tough to match that exact blue in the table cloth. I think chargers look more classy and elegant overall.

If you use white table cloths, then the plates would be great! If you are using that navy blue, then they clash.

They are on the small side for chargers but you can make them work. As only the appetizer or salad courses are served on the charger, and they are removed before placing the entree plate the size won’t be that noticeable.
Are they flat? It’s hard to tell from the photo. They look a bit bowl shaped.
Don’t forget that you can always buy used chargers. Many brides buy them, use them once for a couple of hours and sell them.

@abbie017: Yeah I wouldn’t want that… but are chargers too predictable?
@PrncssDva: Great idea! I’d love to see them on a white table cloth~ but our event is evening… is that too informal?
@julies1949: Thanks for the tip~ I’ve looked at chargers on CL before and you’re right, they can be cheaper… you think I should hold out then? I can rent chargers locally for $1/per and have seen some gold ones (only 5 tho) but I was just looking for a little more jazz… hmmm
Anyone have advice about SILVER or GOLD if I went with chargers?
Should I definitely do silver to match the chairs even tho I prefer gold overall?

I didn’t vote, because I agree that the plates are too busy, but I personally don’t like chargers very much. If you really want chargers, I would go with silver rather than gold.
What about setting the table with white plates & adding a little blue with a nautical themed napkin & napkin ring
Something like the one in the bottom right corner. You could make it a little fancier of a fabric, or just do a solid blue, but I think that’d add a little something.

@les105: lol oops! I just added an additional option to the poll for suggestions like yours.
I like the napkin idea that’s very cute but those little starfish are pricey too…
hmmm maybe I could find them in bulk online. Its a great suggestions, thanks!

@KimmySumShuga: You could sub a small shell- they sell bowls full of shells at the Dollar tree. You could also do white napkins & buy navy & white striped ribbon, then just tie the ribbons around the napkin and tuck a seashell inside (make sure to sterilize shells, obviously). Lots of ways to add dolor via napkins/napkin rings. I always like when people do that because it’s a way to add a unique touch 🙂

My wedding was a Fall Evening Wedding and I did ivory tablecloths, so I say white is just fine. Sometimes “rules” take away from you being you 😉

I would go with gold, if you want a metallic charger. And personally, I would, but that’s just my $.02. When everyone is sitting down, they won’t notice the chairs are silver, but (again, personally) I would notice if the rest of the table setting was in gold and the chargers were silver.

I think the plates with white tablecloths would be perfect! It would be so much more fun than your predictable wedding plate. I like fun! 🙂 You could do the centerpiece accent a little heavier in the blue with a white tablecloth also.
Also — white tablecloths will resell WAY better or can be bought WAY cheaper, if you’re going that route.

@les105: True, true I love shells! They are all over our centerpieces and I actually saw a pack of 500 mini baby starfish (like 1/2″) for like $12 on oriental trading and was thinking about incorporating them into the decor somehow… or eBay has some pretty impressive deals too! Shipping is the annoying part… thanks for the inspiration!
@PrncssDva: I love your attitude! I agree~ I should listen to my heart cuz its MY wedding 😀 thanks!
@classiccowgirl: lol so you say I should go with GOLD cuz no one would notice the difference when everyone is sitting but then you say you, personally, WOULD notice the difference? I’m confused… what makes you lean towards gold if you think it would clash?Do you think Gold is more nautical? I love champagne gold and found some light gold chargers at Michaels for $2 plus tax but they vary in scratches and tint sometimes so I’m not sure…
@AmeliaBedelia: I like fun too and yes, thank you for saying I’d be less predictable cuz that is definitely my goal 😀 My venue provides table cloths so I’m not so worried about buy and resell but I am thinking more along the lines of unique asthetics.
The vote is slanted towards the blue striped plate….
Thanks for your input everyone, I’m going down to dollar store today to see them in person!

@KimmySumShuga: Btw – We bought plates from Dollar Tree for ours and my advice is to go several times. They will have some that look great and others that have issues, you just have to be patient and allot the time to go a few times to get the best ones. 🙂

@KimmySumShuga: I meant no one will notice that the plates don’t match the chairs (since people will be sitting). Lol I was trying to say that a gold/silver table combo would stand out more than a table/chair combo. But yeah, now that you mention it, I guess you do see more gold with navy and white nautical themes… but either would be beautiful 🙂 The striped plates are fun!
