My hubs and I are setting up a cash budget...
how much do you spend a week on groceries? There is just the 2 of us.
Probably about $135/week for my husband and I, which is definitely more than I'd like to spend. We do shop at a more expensive grocery store, and we don't skimp when it comes to things we like, which does add up. And we have a dog so we pick up food/snacks for him, too.
I would like it if I could get it around $80/week but my husband refuses to make any changes to our shopping habits. Booo.
For my FI and I it depends on what we need each week, but we can range anywhere from $40-$100 a week. I would budget on the higher side, but if you happen to spend less then yay!
We budget monthly for food since we buy some of our things from one of the warehouses, but we spend close to $500 a month between bulk purchases and weekly grocery store shopping.....seems like a bit much for two people when you do the breakdown especially when we do not even cook an actual meal every night, maybe my husband just eats a lot.
I spend between $40-70 a week for the two of us just depending on whether I need to pick up things for the house and/or the dog. I recently became obsessed with coupons and learning sale cycles and such. In my area, things go on sale about every 6 weeks, so when they are on sale, I stock up, and I plan my weekly cooking menu based on what's on sale. It's really help me cut back my grocery budget, which I definitely needed to do because we're both in law school.
Ours varies a lot. We can spend as little as $60 or up to $150. Every month or so, we do "big shopping" and hit up the area wholesale club to grab a pork loin that we cut up ourselves into chops for the month. We also go to a local butcher to get boneless skinless chicken breasts as they sell them super cheap (less than $2 per pound). So that alone runs us up to $60.
FI takes lunch everyday so we cook for leftovers a lot. I would think if we tried harder we could stick to around $100 or so a week.
We try to keep our grocery bill under $100 every week, and usually manage. We do eat out at least 2x on the weekend though. Otherwise all of our meals are either at home or brown bag from home!
We spend right around 80, sometimes 60. We always use coupons and stick to the shopping list. If it's not on the list, we can't get it. We also freeze a lot of stuff and cook to have lunch the next day.
Ahh!! We're so bad about this!! We can usually spend at least $100 on a weekly basis to get the basics, but every few weeks we have a "big trip" to stock up on the things that we run out of. Sometimes those can get up to $250!
Too much!! Its been around $120 lately for just the 2 of us. We buy a TON of fresh produce every week, which really adds up. I plan our meals according to the sale flyers, and I use coupons when I can but for some reason I just can't seem to lower the weekly bill.
We usually spend around $50 a week for the two of us. It goes up a bit if we have to buy kibble for our kitty haha. It's usually pretty low. FI works at a grocery store during the summer packaging meat and so he gets some really good deals. We stock up then and use it as we need it during the year. Plus I work Saturdays at a hardware store which also sells some grocery items and my discount is amazing. I get everything at the store cost plus 10% to cover the labour of unloading the shipments. That really helps us save money. Usually the money we save goes to next year's tuition or books so it's important we save as much as possible (:
We spend about $140 every time we go to the grocery, but that usually gets us through ten days to two weeks. If we want groceries for just one week, I'd say it costs about $100.
Usually $200 a week for the 2 of us and kitty, but we also entertain a lot.
Anywhere from 50-100...it goes up significantly the longer we go between shopping trips, obviously.
I would say that we are also around $100 a week if you average everything out. I try and Costco shop as much as possible and also watch the flyers but there are some things that we just have to have and will pay more for those.
Probably about $100 but it depends on if we're having anyone over, etc. I also stock up when I find certain items on sale. For instance, chicken breasts go on sale 50% off every month or so for half price at our grocery store, so I'll stock up, repackage them, and put them in the freezer. It adds up on that initial grocery bill, but we save a ton of money doing it this way :)
$50-70 a week for the two of us... but if things we eat a lot are on sale, I buy the heck out of them. Like here, chicken breasts drop half price every 6 weeks or so so I get like 6 packs of 3 breasts each and freeze them - those trips get a little more expensive :)
I go to the grocery store once a week, as I plan our menu out weekly. For 2 people I spend anywhere between $100-$140 per week. It varies b/c one week I will buy say a pack of chicken, but can use it going into the next week. But typically I never spend less then $100 weekly, if I do its like $90ish.
we are really bad with groceries (plus, it is 2-3x more expensive to buy food here than elsewhere, which sucks) and probably spend between $500 & $700 a month if we're being extravagant (which we often are). However we're fedding 3 adults and 1 child.
So........ I can guesstimate that without the munchkin & extra adult around we would probably be spending $3-400/month.
There are 3 of us and I usually spend about $100-150 depending on if I'm hungry when I go! lol
We spend quite a bit, but we typically only eat organic meats and lots of fresh produce. This add up fast! We also don't eat much of the foods in the center aisles of the store (ie; cheap and processed), and we don't keep snacks in the house. We are usually around $150/week, which does not include my husband's lunches or eating out once or twice on the weekends.
ideally we would spend $100-130, but we limit ourselves to $50. it takes a lot of planning and can be difficult, but we make do!
We vary as well, usually it's between $60-120. I think on the bigger weeks, we stock up on staples and occasionally a splurge (like fish or steak for dinner one night). On the smaller weeks, we're mostly replenishing snacks and vegetables. Also depends how busy we are with work - are we packing sandwiches every day and staying late, or are we getting out early and having time to fancy dinners and constant snacking.
We grocery shop every two weeks, and spend around $100-$150 (mostly depending on other products, like shampoo, dog food, etc.)
So I will say about $50-$75 per week.
We spend anywhere from $100 - $180 a week for the two of us, but we also like to entertain and I have a fully stocked pantry that never gets empty.. I think have issues with stock piling food, lol. Because we eat at home so much I make sure we have gourmet foods on hand to indulge once in a while too. :)
We do our main grocery shopping every two weeks and that is about $100-120. Then on the alternate week we do a short trip for bread and milk and whatever else we have run out of and that trip is usually about $25.00 So I guess on average we spend about $70 a week or so. We do have a membership to sams club and use that frequently for the essentials like chicken breasts and hamburger patties. We have cut our eating out WAY down since we got engaged, to save money for the wedding. I just went shopping this morning for a special Valentines dinner-2 strip steaks, a lb of shrimp, salad and potatoes for $20.00, that same dinner eating out would be $50-70.00 easilly, so I feel good about that. I find that planning ahead helps. Figuring out meals ahead of time, and making out a list and sticking to it, is the key. We shop on Saturday morning normally. But the ads come out on Wednesday, so that gives me time to look at the ads, plan what we are going to have and get the best deals. clipping coupons helps too, as long as you are only buying things you would normally buy.
@bakerella: I do that too - buy stuff like chicken breasts and good steak when it's on sale. And canned goods (What? Black beans are only 50c a can this week? I'll buy fifteen cans, thanks... Oh, salsa is 60% off for the superbowl? And I'm only allowed to buy 4? I'll come back tonight for more...) hahaha
We go grocery shopping once a month and budget only $200 for it. It turns out to be $50/week (plus extra if we are having a craving for a certain food item, need dog food, etc.) My FI works at a department store that has a grocery section so we do all of our shopping there because of the discount we get on the store's name food. I also write out a list, browse the coupons from the store's ad and online (like at couponmom.com, coupons.com, etc) and put them all into a small folder. We were able to save $90 in coupons/discounts once!
FI travels every week so I only have to shop for myself! My grocery bill ranges from $60-$80 a week.
It's the two of us plus a roommate (my little brother- he pays us grocery $$ every month), and we've managed to keep it under $100 per week, including toiletries, etc. I do the shopping, otherwise it will NOT stay at that amount & we end up w/ a bunch of junk
Wow, I wish ours was as low as some of the Bees. I spend about $120-140 a week on groceries. Produce is SOOO expensive. I wish it was less than $100!
@daydreamwanderer: I'm obsessed with the half price chicken breasts! LOL! I also have sworn never to buy toilet paper at full price. DH goes through a roll a day and I can't afford to keep him stocked at full price! LOL! I get a sick sense of satisfaction when I get toilet paper for 70% off ;)
we probably spend around $100 if i averaged it out (that's just food, we don't usually buy household things like laundry detergent or TP or advil at the grocery store). we have 3 types of trips, 1: quick to just pick up a few things we need that day, usually once a week one of us will stop in for something, 2: the regular weekly shop- we try to stock up on whatever is on sale that week, and buy produce for the wk, 3: the BIG shops, every 6 weeks or so, these get expensive just because we pick up things like protein powder for FI, we try to do these at costco (love costco!)
On a good week we keep it around $150 but when we have to buy cat food, kitty litter or toiletries, we're closer to $200. We pretty much only buy name brand stuff (FI's kind of a diva when it comes to that), so if we were to go the generic route, we would probably save a considerable amount.
