Has anyone done the 100 push up challenge that several of the bees have blogged about? I started doing it this week, and my arms are killing me. I have lifted weights before, but this is ridiculous. Just curious if any of you have done it and what you thought about it. Was it worth it? Were you able to do 100 push ups in a row at the end of 6 weeks? Did your arms look awesome afterwards?
I didn't know about this, I'm pretty new around here. Where did the post begin? I'd love to take on this challenge! I work out now, but the most push ups I can do (no knees) is ten! Ugh, ten years ago I could do about 60 in a row! (I was in the USMC too though) How many did you start off with? How do you train for it? Is there a routine you guys are following?
I did the first few days but couldn't continue because I have a really weak wrist from an injury. I do my own program of "girl" pushups though on my knuckles, and I have definitely noticed a difference! I do 50 each time I work out about 5 days a week. (2 sets of 25) and I feel it's a good workout for the arms. I also do some weight lifting. Try the challenge though - it's probably worth it! I had to work up to the 50 per workout, and yeah, I was sore at the beginning.
I just started it this week (it was my New Year's resolution, ha ha). But my fiance is really into fitness and goes to the gym all the time, and he discouraged me slightly because my form isn't good. He's worried that I'm going to injure myself and he thinks I should work on getting a stronger core before I attempt to do good-form push-ups. Sigh. All I want is for my arms to look amazing in my wedding dress ;-)
I started the program about 4 weeks ago, and I wasn't able to do more than 6 when i started, and I'm fairly certain that if i really, really, really tried, I could do the full 100 (I haven't given it a go yet.)
I will say, the first week almost killed me. My arms were NOT thanking me, and i thought that i had seriously hurt something!
I'm on week two and can already tell the difference. I was working with weights as well before I started but I couldn't lift my arms after the second day. It gets better after the first week. They also have a two hundred sit up challenge I'm thinking about doing. Has anyone done that?
I started this week...I am a weakling (11 pushups), but haven't felt too much pain to be honest with you, a bit sore, but you can give up on it. I am excited to see if I can do 100 in 5 more weeks :)
Good Luck, its definitely worth it because I am sure you will be able to do more than what you started with in 6 weeks!
I started it last week and I feel like I can already feel a difference- my arms were pretty sore in the beginning, but I kind of like it- a reminder I am doing something good for myself! I've also resolved to walk the staircases in the garage next to my office during lunch- it is 8 flights, so I go up 8, down 7, up 7, down 6, up 6, down 5 etc.... - I think it has been good for me to get my heart going in the middle of the day, and it doesn't take more than 15-20 mins.
Let's all keep at it! Maybe we can keep updating in this thread?
I started it a week ago and (so embarrassing) couldn't even do a pushup - so I am doing modified ones (from the knees) for a couple weeks and am then going to have another stab at the real ones. My honey is doing it too and it's great because we can monitor eachother for correct form, etc.
For those who don't know, the website is hundredpushups.com
i just finished week three of the pushups, after being inspired by seeing it here. it's funny, my arms have yet to really feel sore, but i have definitely gotten stronger. i started at 9 and now my max is 34...so i guess if i can keep progressing like that i'll get to a hundred eventually. i also just started doing the two hundred situps...they seem easier. i alternate sets of pushups and situps, it's a good workout!
I started this, but never finished. I plan to start it up again. It really does work. My arms were terribly sore the first week. I think I pulled an ab muscle at some point too b/c I had to take a few weeks off. I never realized that push ups work our abs too!
I was also curious about this, i wonder if anybody out there finished the challenge. I didnt know about the situps though. I'm thinking about giving both a try. Maybe we should start a little thread where we all come back and report back and encourage each other!
I am going to start this! I could only do 6 push ups...so I'm hoping this really works! I would love everyone to keep updating with their progress!
I am on week 2 and can definitely feel a difference. My ab muscles were also really sore after the first week. What is the two hundred situps? Is there another challenge?
I started the challenge this week. My initial exhaustion test was FIVE pushups. ON MY KNEES! aggh! But already I am doing better. I did 25 pushups total today.
The challenge also allows you to do any kind of push up - knees, toes, against a wall, against a bench - whatever you can do. I am doing them on my knees for now and will upgrade to toes when the time comes...
Keep it up, girls!
ooh! hadn't heard of it but I'm starting tomorrow. We'll see what kind of short term results you get b/c I'm getting married in 3 weeks eek!
I think my problem is I did a yoga video on day 2 of the challenge. It was power yoga and it had a lot of holding downward dog, which put strain on my arm muscles. Then when I did the push ups that day, my arms got super sore. I'm not sure if I should give myself an extra day to recuperate or just keep going as scheduled.
Can someone explain how the challenge works? How do you get started? Whats the routine? Thanks!
The challenge is here: http://hundredpushups.com/
I am finishing up week 2 and it's been very hard but so worth it! I did 75 push ups on Wednesday...this program has really been working for me.
My arms got better, and I was able to complete week 1 on schedule. I can't wait to start week 2!
I just started the 100 pushup challenge this week. My arms are a little sore but not too bad. The amazing thing is I already feel stronger!!! I seriously can already see a bit of definition in my arms. I think it's really fun, my FI and I do it together and put on fun work out tunes and push each other.
Let's all keep motivated to finish the challenge! I just finished Week 3, but I had to move from the second column to the first column after week 2 (I was just ONE pushup away from staying in the second column). I can already see more definition in my arms. Is it working for you guys?
Mr. Quiche and I decided to do this together. On our first day, I did 6. He did 31. I couldn't believe it! I told him there was no way he could do more than 10 & he totally put me to shame :)
Let's keep up the good work, ladies!!
I love this idea, I'm going to start tonight, I want to have nice arms for the wedding. And in the past it seems no matter how hard I work out on machines my arms still don't look great, I want to add this and the sit up challenge to my work out so I look super hot for our wedding!
Where can I find details about how to do the 100 Push-Up Challenge. I am having a hard time finding it using the Weddingbee search button. Thanks in advance for your help.
I just got through Week 2...and it is HARD!! I'm going to repeat week 2 to get stronger before I keep going, becasue if i was struggling at the end of week 2 and could barely keep going, it doesn't make sense to move on and do them incorrectly.
I've been doing the highest category of each week, so we're gettin' close! ...but there is a long road ahead. :)
I'm a cheater...I do knee push-ups but I can honestly say that my arms feel so much tighter and toned. I'm still hoping to get to 100!
I am starting this too! And I love the idea of getting your fiance to do it with you!!
Doing modified pushups is definitely not cheating! I started doing the program over the summer, after hearing about it on a podcast (Too Beautiful to Live, it's great, check it out!). They interviewed the guy who set up the website, and he emphasized that repeating weeks or modifying as necessary is the way to go. He said that he repeated some weeks while doing the program.
I never quite finished the program, but I started out unable to do a single "real" push-up and now I can do 10+. I feel like a strong, kick-ass lady. :)
I started today and made it for column 2! So I am excited and think this is exactly what I needed as my motivation boost. Also push ups help with your stomach muscles as well and legs if you do the regular push ups.
Given all the interest on my post, I'm resurrecting this discussion. Who is in it to win it this year?
I'm in! I did the initial test this morning and made it to 21, probably thanks to the pushups I've been doing recently in the Spartacus workout. But I'm excited about this! Seems like a great challenge and the perfect way to get wedding dress-worthy arms.
I want to join!!! I am not sure if I should stick with modified or regular though. I can do 12 modified or about 2-3 regular (with bad form).
I am doing the first day tonight!!! I only have 4 weeks till the wedding (EEEKKK) but I figured I can make this happen
@cakelove That's uber impressive!!! Way to go
@caszos I generally feel like good form is better than bad form because you may hurt yourself. You'll probably get more benefit from better form in the modified as well. Maybe it it gets too easy then you can switch to the regular form.
I'm super excited that I won't be alone in this challenge.
I'm starting the challenge today with the initial test. My FI and I have been lifting together a lot, but I was tempted by the word "challenge" : )
I am all about the goal-oriented workouts lately! I'm already on C25K but this will cover some of my strength training too. I'll start on this tomorrow, probably, but I'm in!
I'm in! Although apparently I am not using good form because I can't go all the way to the ground....
