I was wondering if any of you had a maggie sottero dress and how it fit, in terms of did you have to get a bigger size then you normally wear? i know some dresses, you could get a bigger size, or smaller depending but just wondering how true to size maggie sottero dresses were.
The nice thing about them is they have the corseted backs. I did have to go up one street size for the chest area, but with the corest there wasn't much alteration in the waist.
Even in the dresses (like mine) that have the zipper closure it is over a corseted back. Good luck!!!
Ohh I also ordered it in petit, which came three inches shorter. That was a plus.
oh yah i am ordering mine in petite too! i was a little bit concern about the 3 inches shorter thing but i think it will be okay cuz the dress is pretty long even when i wear heels =x i think i should be okay. i ordered a size 0 because my consultant said the size 2 would be too big on me
I'm a 0R/2P, and I ordered a 4 for my Maggie gown. It's a bit big in the chest (no surprise there) but great everywhere else. The petite length was perfect on me...I am about 5'3" and was wearing 2" heels.
I also have a maggie sottero dress. Going one size up is usally perfect for any wedding dress. For Maggie Sottero dress, bc of the corseted back, it is very flexible.
I got a perfect size dress...meaning if im a street size 2, i got a 2 wedding dress, which is a 0 in street size. The waist and everythign fits bc of the corset, but the top is bit small bc I am top heavy...=(
I'm have a Maggie dress and I adore it! In my experience my street size was the same as the gown size. The only alterations will be to fix the length. I'm sure the corseted back made fitting a little easier, though. If you are unsure, going one size larger couldn't hurt anything!
I ordered a 0 <--- A size I never thought I'd be. I have to get it taken out a little b/c of my womanly hips My fitting's tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. I'm a street size 2.
I wear large tops and 16 jeans. I ordered a 14 and about drove the sales girl crazy asking "are you sure about that" about a million and a half times. It seemed strange that I was ordering a size smaller than my jeans. They managed to squeeze me in the size 10 sample dress the day I "found it" and tried it on the first time (even my hips sorta fit in that...more about that in a second)...and when they measured me, my bust came out a 12 (even with d cups), my waist a 14, and I can't remember what my hips put me at (a size or two bigger than the 14). Once again, a reminder of the womanly childbearing hips I was so blessed with. lol. So we went with the 14, thinking that I didn't want the lady to mess with the spray of beading on my waist, but she'll have to take in my bust (which is packed full of beads...I'd rather have her take some of those off than have to move the beads at the waist). About the size 14 and my hips...on the size chart it looks like the dress will be too small in the hips, but if you compare the measurements on the chart, the 14 is 4 inches bigger than the 10 in the hips area. They reassured me that, even though my measurement is bigger than the listed hip size on the 14 size chart, it's plenty bigger than the sample they squeezed me into, and if worse came to worse, there's about 3" total seam allowance, so they can let it out if need be. Now if I could give up french fries for 7 months, maybe they won't have to do that. We'll see.
Not sure if the style of the dress has anything to do with all that...I'm sure it does. My dress (Adelaide) is a-line.
Sorry for the book. I just ordered it the other day, so part of me rambling on and on is just my excitement of getting it ordered.
I tried on a Maggie and I needed one size bigger than I normally wear in dresses. It was very consistant size-wise with the other wedding gowns I had been trying on. Good luck!
I also ordered up a size in comparison to my street size, and went with the petite length. I thought it was crazy getting a petitite length -- I'm 5'6 barefoot, and wore 3" heels, but with the petite length, I didn't have to hem the dress at all. In fact, I didn't have to have any alterations done, aside from bustling the dress.

posted by msduck 41 posts 3 months agoI usually wear about a 4, but the 6 I got is perfect (cept for needing to be taken in in the hips...of which I have none.)

So I would suggest going 1 size up...

posted by julieulie 35 posts 1 month agoi had maggie sottero & midgley and it was great.
they barely did anything besides trimming the bottom.
I loved it. very well made with quality beading & on top of it, it was super comfortable. :)
posted by GoIzzy 17 posts 1 month agoI also have a maggie!! I ordered one size up and the petit. It was awesome. I just had to have cups sown in and the hem taken up slightly.
It was so nice not to have to worry about taking in the waist (which I normally have to do) and having everything fit in the bust.
LOVE MAGGIES!
