So.... as in any egaged lady i have looked high and low for the perfect dress, but with no luck :( Until i stumbled upon pictures of my grandma in her dress! And there it was satan, ivory, and gorgeous!!! And even better my mother wore the same dress at her wedding to my father! My grandma made the dress herself in home ec. at age sixteen and is now almost eighty! I am so excited! I plan on taking off the sleeves but it already has the perfect sweetheart neckline and hand sewn lace....sigh :) I will try to get pictures on ASAP.
That's so exciting. I often wonder why more people don't check within their own families first. Older dresses have a beautiful, vintage look with classic lines that dresses made today replicate. Fashion always recycles itself, so it's beautiful that you don't have to spend a lot on your dress AND can wear something of sentimental value!
Sorry no pictures yet....computer on the fritz!!! And yes....my mom wore the exact same dress including an eighties inspired hat and very very long train. Super excited!
I've always loved my mother's wedding gown -- a boat-necked ivory velvet slight A-line with a chapel train. Won't exactly work for my beach wedding, though.

Did your mom used your grandmother's dress for the wedding or a similar one?
